Good basic world atlas

I've spent morning looking for decent world atlas app (even tried a simple screenshot of world map to keep as reference on phone, obvious limitations) and so far I've felt relief with this app. Easy to navigate globe. Compass doesn't reorient every time I (easily) zoom or 'travel.' There are basic country stats (and I can look elsewhere for more). No distracting desert or topiary colored background. I see recent reviews of app are mostly high or decent rating and like many of these I have no previous version of app to compare to and thus no baggage (re cool features lost). Probably just what I need for having ready access to map I can view off or online and follow news etc. Wants: PLEASE ALLOW larger text size for stats, let me change in settings. Don't know how to add a new pin category on fly (or at all), guess I'll throw them in favorites, seems limited. Wish it didn't lose my zoom view often when I explore stats or other. Suppose I'll use with Google Earth for detail and other sites for in-depth country history/stats/photos.

Rebuilding the world

The new atlas is actually quite spectacular. It's very smooth and responsive, with a much more elegant presentation of material, including new statistical visualizations. Yes, I was also disappointed by the lack of map details; the zoom now stops at a fairly high country level. However, I read the FAQs within the app and now appreciate what NG has done: "National Geographic's association with Bing Maps ended at the end of 2014. Instead of including a different map vendor, we decided it made more sense for the product to initially allow only National Geographic maps and associated content." The key word for me is "initially." A return of more detailed maps appears to be on this app's own road map. As a user, I can appreciate the disappointment in the lack of detail. As a developer, I can appreciate the interim compromise that's been made - in anticipation of something better during the quarterly map updates. Stay tuned, true believers...

Pluses with 1 big minus

Hello National Geographic,
Thank you for the great improvement to World Atlas.
I think your distance tool is a great improvement because it stays in place & can be used as a lubber line at any scale. I don't understand why it only appears on a grey globe instead of the "Classic" colors.

I think the detail & the readability is awesome. I'm glad you are not aligned with a detailed local map provider, there are many of those that do a great job & they can be viewed separately. There is only one National Geographic & the special way you show Geographic & Country & World detail can only be found at National Geographic.
95% of my National Geographic Globe use is off line.

Thank you for saving my "Pins". I think I have lost some notes that were with the pins.
Maybe, I don't know how to access the notes.

I DO HAVE A PROBLEM: 80% of the Time I use my iPad, I am required to use it vertically in the portrait mode. So far I have only been able to view this new National Geographic Globe in the horizontal or landscape mode. Please tell me there is a way to use it in the Portrait Mode. This is a BIG MINUS.

ALSO, You seem to think it is important to not use to much of my memory. There should be an option for much more offline detail. I would be glade to devote 5GBs or more to this great iPad app.

Thank you
