Not happy with recent update
The app is generally pretty reliable. There were some problems earlier this year that they fixed and my local online library is pretty responsive to my occasional email question or comment. I use this almost exclusively on my iPhone 6s and have few problems. Prior to this update I would have given it a 4 or 5 star rating. However the recent update/overhaul discarded a feature I had come to rely on. It discontinued 'Ratings'. Other people may not miss this, but it has left me extremely frustrated and disappointed. I used it as a tracking mechanism in which I'd give the most recent book in a series a star-rating and then knew to check out the next one. There were series that were not carried in their entirety by my library and I'd use that feature to track gaps; to wait for the next book in a series to be published; to track favorite authors; and to note books that I would want to actually purchase. From what I can tell the new 'History' category simply lists everything I've read. It's a nice reminder but has nowhere near the practical use that Ratings had. I've contacted Overdrive about my complaint and they were very nice in taking note of my complaint, but even if they bring it back the damage is probably done and the data from a couple of years is probably gone for me. Frustration expressed, I want to say that it is a good app and reading books for escape on my phone is quite satisfying.
I'll give you back five stars if you make the "Add to App" button actually work when I check out books. It used to work & only ceased functioning with the latest update. I can't count how many times I've tried for 30+ minutes for a checked out title to simply add to the app. Beyond frustrating. Seriously, whats the point of the app if that basic function doesn't work? I've waiting a full month for a bug fix before changing my rating, get it together guys!
Please Please Please--Let me sign in once forever unless I push a logout button! Are you afraid someone is going to steal my identity and check out library books on my behalf?? Really? It has a "remember me" box that has never in four years actually worked & it annoys me greatly! It will forget me if I exit from browsing books to my bookshelf & back to browsing again three minutes later! If we must sign in every time at least use the fingerprint technology built into my phone so I don't have to reenter my library/card number/pin, its making me crazy! I'm guessing there must be a percentage of the population that uses more than one library within the app but how about lets just make it hard for them and not everyone? :)
Also! Can we have a holds list for our holds list?? My five spots are always full, I would love it if when one of those five becomes available & is automatically checked out to me if you would bump a title from my waiting-to-hold list onto the hold list. Greedy yes, lazy yes, want it? Yes!!
Great app but I have suggestions
This is a great app. I can read two books a day, so this app makes it easier for me than going to the library and checking out a million books at a time.
I only wish they would up the hold limits. Because people can check out a book for 21 days, you can wait for a book on hold for months. I have been next in line for two books for almost a month. Plus, you can only put 15 books on hold. Which for most people that limit is okay because it takes them so long to read a book. But for speed readers (or the stay at home/retired people) you can wait months for a book only to read and return it the same or next day. I wish there was a way to look at the average time users borrow books, and if it is generally less than three days, their hold limit should increase. The most sought after books aren't going to be sitting in my account for weeks, so let me put more on hold. I read and return them within two days, while most people take all three weeks and sometimes even renew them after that.
I have over 200 on my wish list and can only put 15 on hold. Drives me crazy.
If there are people waiting for a book, lower the borrow time limit to one or two weeks. If I went to the library, there would be a 1 or 2 week checkout time limit, so why not on the app?
Out of my 15 books on hold, 2 WERE PUT ON HOLD IN SEPTEMBER, 2 IN OCTOBER, 2 IN EARLY NOVEMBER! Yet, my average checkout time is one to two days. Increase hold limits for people like me. PLEASE!!!
