Good quality--needs a few improvements
Excellent work for a simple sound generation app. The interface is clean, the sounds are high quality, and the options are uncluttered.
However, developers need to address a few issues:
—On occasion, around the selection buttons, an indented square appears in the same manner as the "water droplet" animation after pressing a button, as if the animation extends into the edges of the button's defined area on the screen. It's strange and greatly affects the visual UE. Either adjust the animation to be smaller, widen the button AOE on the screen for the animation, or change the animation to a simple indent like in your other app, SimplyRain.
—Timers do not always work. Sometimes, although a timer is set for one hour, I wake hours later to the app still running and playing noise. This is annoying and defeats the purpose of a timer. It also interferes with my alarm clock on occasion, which is not something my boss would like to know.
—In-app and device volume should be identical. When in-app or device volume is adjusted, it should be reflected as a 1:1 ratio on the other source, the two sources being in-app and device. This would make it easier to precisely adjust the volume when the device screen is off.
Once these aesthetic and usability tweaks are made, this app will become one of the best noise generators on the App Store.
A Must-Have for Daily Use
Unless you're fortunate enough to have a large house with good soundproofing between rooms, this is an app that you need and will use daily. The white- (or in my case "brown-") noise effect, when used with your earphones, sounds a lot like a calming rain outside the window (either gentle, or if need be, heavy). It does a terrific job of blocking out the sounds of TV, music, or conversations from the next room. If you are like me, in that you often retire in the evening before others in the family, set the app's sleep timer, put your phone on your bedside table, and drift off to sleep without any disturbance from the next room. I've used it daily for at least the last year or two. It's one of those apps that I am genuinely enthused about and would never part with. (And by the way, contrary to previous reviewers' claims, it does work in docks. To get it to do that, you need to turn the app on first, set it's sleep timer, and then insert your phone into the dock. Following that procedure, you should have no problem.)
Best white noise app I've tried
We just had a baby, and babies love white noise, so I've downloaded about six or seven of these apps in an attempt to find a decent one. This is it!
Most of the apps have about a million different sounds, and most of the apps have a terrible UI for navigating those sounds. This one's different. It's only got white, pink, and brown noise, so the UI can be much simpler, and I think that's about 90% of your use cases anyway. It's also got a feature where it periodically varies the volume of a sound, which gives a nice organic effect to what might otherwise sound too artificial. Combined with brown noise, it sounds kind of like ocean waves or rainfall. Most importantly, the baby loves it!
I think the devs would do better, by the way, if they featured the UI more prominently in the App Store images. The UI is what's going to sell this app, so show it off!
