SpriteDance with YouTube
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Add characters or effects, cover faces or replace heads in your favorite videos just by pointing! SpriteDance, the easy to use animation studio for iPad, makes you the virtual director for a group of sprites moving on top of your video.
“This is the first animation app that I've found for the iPad that just works.... I've made some awesome title sequences and graphic inserts for little movies I edit using ReelDirector. I'm working on a fully-SpriteDance animation, too. It's just a lot of fun.” (5-Stars SFDex)
From kids' cartoons to corporate presentations, moving birthday cards to animated assembly instructions, you and your iPad will be ready for any animation emergency with SpriteDance. Position your sprite, with simple gestures, tap a button to remember that pose, then adjust the time and set a new pose for your sprite. Repeat until your sprite moves where you want it when you want it. You can adjust these keyframe poses at any time, and work with one or several sprites at the same time.
With PixelSplincher's revolutionary new Digital Tracking system, complex animations that follow moving targets in your video are a breeze; just place your digit on the target and follow it as the video plays.
When you are happy with your animation, you can save it to the iPad photo album or send it to YouTube. For live presentations, just connect your iPad to an external video display using a video connector or wirelessly via AirPlay to your AppleTV, and play your animation directly to the display from within the app.
While SpriteDance comes with a huge library of sprites, you can easily import your own directly from the iPad photo album, or drop them into the app through iTunes. This makes it easy to use any of the millions of PNG images with transparent backgrounds you can find on the web as sprites in your own productions. SpriteDance also lets you create sprites from text using any of the built-in iPad fonts, with text and outlines in any color.
SpriteDance includes a set of stages to get you started quickly, or you can pick any movie or photo in your Photo Album to use for an animation background. And because you can save any frame of your animation back to the photo album, SpriteDance is also great for compositing still frames from different graphic elements and text. Fantastic app with some room to grow
UPDATE MAY 30, 2014
The folks who developed this app just released an update. Every step of the way, SpriteDance has remained my go-to app for motion graphics on the iPad. It's a breeze to fly objects around video. I've used this app to add arrows to instructional video to highlight areas of interest; to do motion graphic title bits; to add depth to animations I make in other applications; and to add cartoony bits to videos I shoot on the iPad or import from my DSLR. It's an excellent, one-stop app to add elements to video.
This is the first animation app that I've found for the iPad that just works. (I have a bunch of them -- "DoInk," "PhotoPuppet," the terribly named "I Touch My Friends," and more.) I do video production professionally, and SpriteDance reminds me of the early days of AfterEffects -- back in version 2.0, when it was amazing to move images across a screen. SpriteDance lets you move and scale images and text around the screen with an easy-to-use interface that makes sense. The key framing implementation is really straight-forward and shouldn't be tough for anyone to pick up. I've made some awesome title sequences and graphic inserts for little movies I edit using ReelDirector. I'm working on a fully-SpriteDance animation, too. It's just a lot of fun.
One feature I'd love to see is a means of cutting my own sprites out of photos. I can import photos, sure, but I'd love to be able to extract part of the image with an alpha channel so I can place the image on the stage. I'd also love to have the ability to turn on an ease in or ease out for each keyframe.
Even though I'd like to see some new features, I'm giving this app five stars because right out of the gate it works, and it works well. Great job, developers! I hope you continue to improve this really powerful, useful, fun app!
