Big Whammies, No Bucks, Press Your Luck!
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews about this game, but I must say that it does an excellent job of capturing the fun, silly, experience that is Press Your Luck. The Whammies are animated, complete with squeals. This game is full of excitement and I'm very glad to finally see a Press Your Luck game after so many years.
There are a few minor drawbacks. The download is humongous, so definitely acquire the game through desktop transfer, rather than WiFi. This game is also a bit pricey, like all of Ludia's apps, but it is also very good. Lastly, I would like to see the "tap to skip" feature from Family Feud Decades incorporated into this game, since the pacing is a little slow. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend this game to Press Your Luck fans.
My favorite game app
I love this game. I have not experienced crashing at all. Although when I first installed, it took a long time like 20 minutes and i am on 18 mbps. Once it was almost done, it seemed to start over again. But eventually it completed. I haven't had a problem since. I have made it to the 12th level and most questions, I've noticed are repetitive, but the answers are in a different sequence.
I have to give it a four star only because it appears there's no level after the 12th level and at $4.99 for the app, I would like to see more levels and a bigger question database (so the questions won't repeat so often). If the app were free or even .99, I would give it a 5 star but at the higher cost, I think more levels and questions are appropriate.
Michael Larson would've loved this!
Press Your Luck for iPad is a lot of fun! It's great to see that Ludia brought to 2010 the experience of an early 80's game show, which was one of my favorite to watch growing up. Not sure if Freemantle declined the rights for Ludia to use the original PYL theme song, but the new song is close but still annoying--would have been nice to include to make this feel exactly like the original game. I would also hope that in future updates, more prizes can be awarded than, say, the generic "trip" at $4,000, and other prizes. Game pace is a bit slow and the host not as exciting as Peter Tomarken was, but to get a fairly faithful recreation of such an old game show is pretty cool. Now... when will CBS bring this game back to their lineup???
