AC-7 Core

By Saitara Software

This app is only available on the App Store for iOS devices.

*** This is the AC-7 Core version suitable for first generation iPads.
If you have an iPad 2 or newer, our newer iOS6-only app "AC-7 Core HD" would be a better choice.

*** IOS 5 and 6 tested and working. Make sure your network MIDI settings are correct like the screenshot below.

The AC7-Core is a wireless/wired control surface utilizing CoreMIDI for simple setup and reliable operation. There are dedicated modes for controlling:
Apple's Logic
Pro Tools
MOTU's Digital Performer (v6.02 upwards)
Cakewalk Sonar
Ableton Live
Propellerhead Reason/Record
Sony Vegas/Acid Pro
FruityLoops Studio
Presonus Studio One
Adobe Audition
Mackie Tracktion
Final Cut Pro

Other software which supports the Mackie Control protocol will work with the "Generic Mode"

Works without additional server software on OS X "Tiger" and above.
Also works on Windows XP, Vista, And 7 with solutions such as Tobias Erichsen's "rtpMIDI" driver.

What's New in Version 2.1

Just a few tweaks requested by users:
* Cubase Mode - Shift button moved to a better location
* Pro Tools Mode - Time Display is now laid out more logically for Bars/Beats and Hrs/Min/Sec modes
* Pro Tools Mode - Shuttle and Scrub buttons reversed

A bumpy beginning

First of all, this did not connect so easily to my MacPro. Seems a step was left out in the instructions. Ie, besides following the instructions given, you must also select a network input and output port in the audiomidi network dialogue box. I chose what I believe was network 1 for both. It wouldn't work if I left it blank so word up, if you did everything according to the instructions and are still stuck, try this. I still had to reboot the iPad after that to get this thing to work.

Performance was sluggish at first but improved a little over time. Still, it wasn't fast enough to be useful. I suspect a wired connection might solve the issue but then you could run out of battery as this seems to be a power hog.

Also the manual is very basic and doesn't help if you never had experience with the Mackie control. I wrote the guy concerning this and so far haven't heard back from him. I'm using DP 7.24 and for my session yesterday, went back to the free MOTU free wifi app that works flawlessly, although I wish motu would write an iPad version. But I digress. I think this app has a lot of potential. I Look forward to the next version, hopefully there will be some bug fixes to smooth out performance issues. And please write a complete manual.

Waste Of Money

Nice looking interface but everything else is just trouble. To start, seems like the only way I can get this to reliably work each time is to do a complete hard reset on the iPad then reconnect the device in the MBP Audio/MIDI network settings. Otherwise the AC-7 will not be seen by DP 7.2. The rewind buttons in the transport act like a rewind scrub ... takes forever to get back to 00:00:00:00. Is there perhaps hot keys to speed this up ... anyones guess since anything deeper than faders and pan is not documented anywhere. Yes the developer has recently created a .PDF manual ... but right at the beginning it announces it will not be helping you, "Documenting all the functions would require a really thick book" DEVELOPERS OF THIS APP - people who will use this app are accustomed to digging into manuals to get the most out of their software ... Not documenting functions leads to frustration and negative reviews such as this. Nice idea, poor execution.

Trust me - if you are a DP 7 user ... Don't bother with this app. DP Control is free and will provide the function you will end up using with this app with less frustration.

Music Producer, Engineer

This is a nice piece of technology when it comes to using this for things like automation in your mixing phase via ProTools 9. Regarding automation, it is limited to track automation only. You can not automate your send with this app in ProTools. Play, Stop, Fastward etc. all works great. The job wheel not so great. I could move much faster if the jog wheel did work. Scrub works just fine. Regarding the button to the far left some work. Would be nice if they all worked.

All and all I am happy with the purchase because it helped my with my automations. Mixing a song with tons of automation can be very time consuming using a mouse. I actually did a full blow automation mix with this thing and the song came out great. Note that it will require some practice and patients but it can be done with a steady finger.
