Improved over the last version

The last version of Unison was so bad I was forced to delete it and use an old version. This current version does seem to have fixed some of the issues I experienced.

I’ve been using this version for a week now. The crashing problem has gone away. The program no longer bombs out when dealing with extremely large numbers of headers is newsgroups. Operation seems to be a bit more crisp. Overall it’s a significant improvement over the last version.

Does it still have issues? Yes. The ‘mysterious stalled downloads’ mentioned in the “What’s New” blurb that they claim was fixed, isn’t. At least not here. It still stops downloading for no apparent reason, but at least it doesn’t crash when it does so any longer. Shut the program down, restart it, and the downloads begin working normally again. Sometiems if you wait five minutes or so, they’ll start up on their own.

This is actually one of the best overall newsreaders I have ever used! I have used MOST of them in Windows and Linux and I was pleasantly surprised when I found this gem when I bought a MacBook pro and moved my loyalties to OS X. For text groups it really does not stand out as much as it does for graphics or binary groups. Can't say that as of yet I have done much with using filters, but for my needs and what I do in newsgroups, this works better for me than any other program I have ever used.

Still not updating

Bought this on the promise that the stalled downloads problem (experienced with the demo) had really been fixed. As of this point (ver. 2.1.10), it hasn’t. And that’s just the worst of the erratic features, of which my second-least-favorite is that deleted and/or downloaded items keep popping back up into the header lists. Needs work. A lot of work. You’d be well advised to hold on to your money until you see a whole lot of new reviews confirming the problems have been fixed once and for all.
