Description

“Thank you, papa... papa-pa-papa-pa-pa-pa!!!” - N.

Kids love music. Kids love touch devices. They love music players on touch devices. They love touching all these music player buttons. Songs skip, playlists switch. Standard MP3 players are just too complicated. They’re great for grown-ups, but not for them — the toddlers. The little ones.

Kids’Player is built around a simple idea: Keep it minimal. Chances are your kids can’t even read yet, so we did away with playlists. Kids’Player is purely album-based, cover-only, no text or tracks, just playback buttons — even 2-year olds can operate it.

Kids’Player is also great for separating your kids’ music from your own. It uses a single, pre-defined playlist from your iTunes Library: Set it up to include your children’s audio files only, and your own music will never interfere with their juvenile Audio Books or singalongs.

Features:

• Swipe left/right to select an album by cover
• Play/Pause button
• Back/Forward button (looped, last ◊ first)
• Display of track number
• That’s it

Setup:

• Create a playlist in iTunes
• Put in your kids’ music, audio books etc.
• Sync with iPhone or iPod touch
• Start Kids’Player
• Select the kids’ playlist
• Hand over the device...

If you ever want to switch playlists, you can access Kids’Player preferences in your device’s Settings application.

Have fun!

Great idea, just a couple bugs to work out

I've been looking for a simple player like this one, where my child can have his few albums and very simple controls, without having to use the more complicated built-in music app. This is great, he can switch between his own albums that I set up on his playlist and can control the music.

Two bugs in this version that are a big enough deal that I knocked off 2 stars. Easily 5 stars if these were to be fixed in the next version:
1) Some of the albums do not seem to play the songs in the correct track order, other albums do. My child knows the order to expect the songs and is perplexed that they're not playing in the same order. I can't figure out why this is, the tags on the songs seem to all be set properly. Seems that soundtracks are more likely to have this problem, but I haven't done enough experimenting to be confident that is the real case. Possibly due to the different artists between songs with the same album name?
2) the "Back" track button will go back to the start of the currently playing song, but not to previous songs. Even if you hit it multiple times quickly, it just keeps restarting the same song, does not actually go to the previous track.

Otherwise great, looking forward to an update and hoping these two issues are corrected.

Does its job nicely

This app fills the goal of simplicity, and eliminating nested menus or other options that confuse a child.

It doesn't do quite what I would like though.

I create customer cover art for each track in an album, which allows a pre-literate child to pick songs. Unfortunately, when those songs are grouped in an album, only the designated cover art displays.

I thought I could get around this by simply creating a separate album for each song. That works, but it doesn't allow for continuous play. After the child selects a song, the song plays to the end, and that is it. And in this mode, the child can't swiped to the next song in the list while the album is playing.

These are small annoyances, but signficant to me. Will they matter to you?

Nice!

This is one really neat little app. It does what it's supposed to do in a very simple and stylish way. As promised in the description it can be used by my 4 year old daughter.
Only the splash screen is a little ugly and should be updated to match the great visual style of the rest of the app.
