bugs make it trivial
While I find this app a rather enjoyable diversion, it has a couple of flaws (bugs) that decrease it's enjoyment -- one that makes it basically child's play.
Bug1: you can undo all the way to the beginning to retry a bad start, but if your last move makes it so no more moves are possible, the restart option brings up a reshuffled version of the game. This means you retry the game via unlimited undo as long as you don't make that last move, but the restart option gives you a different tile order such that it is not the same game.
Bug2: if you hit shuffle while in the middle of a game, it reshuffles the current state of the board, but does not restart. Therefore, if you find yourself almost at the end (but not at the end, see Bug1), just touch shuffle, and get a different arrangement. In practice, this leads to a game with greatly reduced challenge, transforming a difficult situation into a trivial one.
Not a bug, per se, but I find it difficult to see how many layers there are; two are easily confused with one. The shadows and bi-color tile sides make this difficult to observe. I would recommend the tiles have a single color side, and a very clear boundary between layers.
Unfortunately, I found no other way to leave a bug report. The developer's website, such as it is, is simply links back to itunes. Thus, this review.
I "brush my brain" in the morning with Majong!
Most mornings, the cobwebs in my brain are thick. So I whip out my iPad and run through a few games of Majong! No, I don't work for the people that made the game, but I highly recommend downloading this game to "brush your brain" in the morning to clear the cobwebs! It also works to quickly fill those little boring waiting times at the doctor's office or when your spouse is watching something weird on TV.... Plus, it's FUN! my only suggestion is for them to make more choices in tile design and layouts. I play the same ones over and over.
The brain loves puzzles and bright colors. As a busy 54 year old I had little time to sit down and do activities that benefitted my brain, such as sewing, knitting, puzzles, painting, etc.... But I discovered this game several years ago and was delighted when I could download it on my ipad. Every morning I play a few rounds to wake my brain up. Then any other time I'm sitting around waiting I pull it out to play. The free version is very nice but sooner or later you'll want this version because it offers more challenges.
