• Find theaters and show times in your area or just about anywhere.

-- Enter in your zip code, or

• Get social and make a plan by sharing the movie details with your friends through email, SMS, or Facebook directly from the app.

After the movie:

• Tell the world what you think and post your own movie rating. Metacritic values your opinion, and your rating impacts the overall user score.

Not Quite the App MetaCritic Needs

I've been clamoring for a MetaCritic App for some time. I like the service, but the Website is difficult to navigate on a phone. This App doesn't meet my needs (or it appears anyone here), and is limiting in many respects.

First, the App does not do anything but look at current movies. If you're interested in TV shows, videogames etc. then you're just out of luck.

Secondly, of the movies it does show, only a handful are searchable. It is limited to what is showing currently, coming soon and titles from the last year or so (2009's "Taken" was used as a benchmark).

Lastly, there is no iPad version. A small quibble, but one that affects the audience of people that might use this software.

These three factors limit the uses of this App to very very few people. In this day and age, if your company isn't going to come out with a full-fledged App, then you should either wait until you can or not bother.

Hopefully, Metacritic will flesh this out to take full advantage of the service. Until then, better Apps that look up movies and give you aggregated scores from lots of critics (like Flixster) exist.

Missed Opportunity by Metacritic

I hate criticizing an app for failing to do something that it obviously wasn't meant to do, but I'm going to anyway because of my love for the Metacritic website.

Why, why, WHY can't we have an app designed to present us access to the entire Metacritic database? It seems like a no-brainer to me. The app as it stands gives us access to current releases (and contrary to some of the other reviews serves that purpose very well), but the kind of person that downloads this is the kind of app is the person that is likely to want to review metascores of many other movies, most of which are no longer current releases. This, along with the IMBD app could have been all a movie geek could want!

Such a shame...

One more thing... get us an iPad version!

Ditto. Roger that. Word up.

I agree with the general consensus. All of us movie buffs who came on the app store to search for "metacritic" were expecting, and hoping for, something a little more representative of an iPhone-friendly portal to the website and all of its joys. Were we to find that in this app, we would of course also utilize it for finding new movies to watch in the theaters. (We are, after all, movie buffs.) But, for that purpose alone, there are other established apps on the market already doing it better. So why try to do what they do? You should do what YOU do best! We find that to be self-evident… duh.
