"OscilloScoop Is Interactive, Music-Making Eye Candy" -- AppAdvice.com
**Top Ten Music App on iPhone and iPad in the U.S. and many other countries.**
Tap, slide, and stretch your fingers over OscilloScoop to create original electronica dance music. With OscilloScoop you make musical grooves by gliding your fingertips over spinning crowns; then sequence them into a real-time performance with a few taps. As effortless as a toy, OscilloScoop offers a simplified set of the same tools used by electronic and dance musicians, with an intuitive interface inspired by video games and animation that opens up the creative process to everyone. OscilloScoop is an organic, generative way to make music in a process that’s more like dancing than composing.
OscilloScoop features continuous tone melody; 16- and 32-beat quantizing; low-pass filter; volume control; selection of six loopable beats in techno, hip hop, electro, and house; tempo control from 60 to 140 beats per minute; inexpensive in-app purchase of twenty additional beat sets; preset saves for live performance; and fine-grain editing when you tilt into landscape.
OscilloScoop is designed by Lukas Girling, a creator of interactive musical interfaces who has worked with world-renowned musicians and music technologists including Laurie Anderson and Max Mathews. The app was created in collaboration with interactive artist and programmer Scott Snibbe, author of the bestselling apps Bubble Harp and Gravilux; and Graham McDermott, noted video game and app developer.

Basically what you have here is a repeating drum track and a monophonic single oscillator with 3 controls - pitch, filter cutoff and amplitude. So you can make a little mono bass li e to the drums, thats it. The amplitude control also affects the drum track. The whole thing would be more interesting as a musical instrument if the drum track could be muted, you could then use it to generate interesting bass lines. The actual interface for the 3 controls is a good one, you can see and adjust the values of the repeating pattern easily and intuitively. As it stands now, this is a toy which could be an interesting but limited and simple instrument but for the fact that whatever you make is going to be mixed with a canned drum track. It would be far more compelling as anything other than a toy if there was greater control of the filter, another oscillator, and if the #!%\%! drum loops could be muted.
Needs moar options!!
I enjoy using this, but it definitely needs more options. I bought all the beats, but found them somewhat lackluster - an in-app purchasable drum paddle for people to make their own beats, upload and share might be a good solution to flesh things out. Definitely a volume control for the beats would help. I'd also like to be able to record a session, I absolutely love the sounds I've been able to engineer with this (I use a lot of 16 for cool notes). More wave patterns would be fun. I'd like to be able to change the synth sounds, too. Samples would be a fun addition. Basically, this would be a pretty solid and fun instrument if the user had a few more options for the sounds they could work with. As it is, it's a very fun toy with huge potential, that -- given a couple important updates to the user experience-- could be an excellent instrument with a sweet digital sound.
Beautiful addictive music maker
I'm loving this new app from interactive artist Scott Snibbe. Oscilloscoop allows anyone to be a DJ and make creative music in an incredibly intuitive visual manner. Unlike other DJ apps, this one has no fancy controls that only an expert would understand. Anyone from an expert DJ to a child can use their finger to "scoop" musical rhythms and watch the instant response of the elegant visual display. As a bonus, one can also save one's musical creations and download extra beats. What fun!
