Castlerama takes you on a photorealistic walk through a beautiful, detailed and accurately lit 3D setting. Merging real and imaginary elements, it draws inspiration from the charming town of Assisi, in Italy. You are left to find your own way around by touch and sight alone. Exploring a whole world becomes a matter of lifting your fingers.
Our goal? To fool your eyes and brain considering it all real. When you go back with your memory to the day you first opened this Mentalbox, you will think it was you on the cobblestone, you in the alleys, you in the catacombs...
While developing Castlerama, we had to face the fact that newer devices such as iPhone4s and iPad2s are very different from their predecessors, iPhone3GSs and iPads, in that the former have twice as much memory. In order to have the app run on all devices, we had to compromise quite a bit, pushing the old devices to their limits (risking crash if other applications are left running) while keeping the new devices well behind their capabilities.
Powered by Unreal Engine.
What's New in Version 1.1
- Fixed stability on less powerful devices.
- Improved performance.
For a better visual quality and smoothness we recommend update to last system software.
Reboot your device after installation is advised.
Thank you to anyone for enthusiasm, advices and criticisms.
We currently have a couple of projects in our pipeline, and we are very likely to release a graphic adventure, or a series of virtual tours, or both.

This is a wonderful : idea, concept, theory, and app. It is beautiful on par with many of the current games out for the ds or psp. It is completely 3D even to the point of 3D reflections in the chapel, the catacombs are dull of twist and turns and creepy sites along with a glimpse Into their next app. The in-game artwork and scenery are breathtaking they rely put detail into them. This side of the app shows amazing potential however their are parts of this app that down right horrible this is a app that is riding completely on the idea of going for a walk not a bad idea and if you only look at the good things about this app the it is amazing but things like : the constant lag, lake of explorable areas, interactive objects, and rooms/areas to go into, or doors that open and shut their are two areas and the main hall stable area that can be gone to. This gives you the :chapel, catacombs, mall, stable, and side wall. The catacombs and the chapel are the only two areas that require loading but it is worth the load time . This Is a app that wants you to go on a walk with rely limited places to walk in/to although the places you can go are amazing it does not excuse the lake of areas or things to do. This app fells half finished, but shows amazing potential. I want to see more from this company and can't wait to their next app. Good job finish it up.
Warning: Causes Motion Sickness in those succeptable
The controls allow rapid camera sweeps. If your succeptable to motion sickness when you watch rapidly panning video, please avoid this game. Patients with seizure disorder triggered by this same situation should ALSO avoid this game. Games of this type should have a control in settings allowing the player to set a maximal turning rate. The default should be VERY slow with a note that those that can tolerate faster turns right or left may turn that speed UP. When people SEE a rapid turn but their equilibrium centers in their ears do not register a head turn, this mismatch of information can trigger problems in certain people. Because of that safety reason, the game needs work.
Symptoms of motion sickness include nausia, headache, feeling weak, fatigued, breaking out into a sweat though not really feeling warm, feeling of motion that isnt occuring. Rest in a quiet place with little visual stimulation. Symptoms may persist for several hours. IF this is triggered, the body releases chemicals into the bloodstream and these take some time...read this as hours...to break down. By all means if there are concerns TELL your doctor. These symptoms can also be warning signs of other conditions, so let your doctor help sort this out.
If you start having symptoms with ANY game, shut it down IMMEDIATELY, and get medical advice.

The idea behind CastleRama is enticing. A virtual tour of a "real" castle rendered in the Unreal engine? Sign me up.
Unfortunately, the 'tour' portion of the app is only a visual journey through a few small areas in the castle. I would've liked to learn about the castle rather than viewing it with no prior knowledge of the location which it's apparently based off of. It would've been a nice touch to scatter some information booths around the castle, just like they have in a real museum. Or better yet, an optional virtual tour guide to show you the different parts of the castle.
I was very disappointed with this app. The scope is very limited and the developers did not put any effort into it besides the gorgeous visuals. I understand that it's not supposed to be a game, but if you're advertising a virtual tour, I would expect some obvious additions (information about the castle, a tour guide, etc.)
If you're planning to make more of these apps, I suggest you keep my suggestions in mind.
