Game To Be WITHDRAWN AFTER 2014!!!!
I wrote these questions to Playdek: "I ran into a website that said Playdek and another company are splitting ways and, as a result, the Ascension app and gameplay will be terminated after 2014. Is any of this true? I would like to know whether I will be able to continue playing Ascension since I paid for it and because I was considering purchasing the IAP's."
I finally received the following response: "You SHOULD still be able to play with any IAP that you purchase for OFFLINE play." (Emphasis added). I draw the following conclusions from Playdek's response: 1) You MIGHT be able to use in-app purchases after the game is removed from the App Store; AND 2) Online play will terminate when the game is removed from the App Store.
For potential buyers: It sounds like you will be buying a DIEING app folks, with limited, if ANY, gameplay coming up soon.
I don't think it's fair AT ALL for a developer to sell a game with in-app purchases with NO warning to the public that the game will be unplayable within a year!! PLAYDEK: Post a warning in your app description!!
I see some stellar reviews out here (the minority), despite ads in a paid app and with an app that's going to be terminated with no warning to the public by Playdek...makes you doubt the credibility of those posters.
Killing this game
My wife and I play this game a lot. It's compelling and engaging, but we want to know why it won't store player information for future games. It's a drag naming the players and choosing which pack(s) we want to play from default every time. Also, I want to be able to use a name other than my Game Center ID. Most annoying thing is having to load the game all over again and re-enter the game slot I'm in if I so much as tap away to answer a text. Why not bring me back to where I left off, like most games? Finally, and I haven't seen this in a little while, sometimes the AI takes forever to play a turn. Usually it seems tied to a card in the expansion pack. Costs 4 runes. Can't remember which one (Arbiter?).
Update: after a recent mandatory update broke the game so that I couldn't even load a game, an update *was* quickly released, but now we also have ads. I paid quite a bit of money at this point to have this game and all of its content, and I don't take to kindly to being served ads after my game is completed. That takes this game from four stars down to one star. Screw you guys. You ruined my most-played game.
Ads + performance problems
For everyone reading this, ads can be turned off in the options menu.
I love this game, I've paid more money for it than any other game I've bought on the iPhone, and this latest update was awful.
The update (with no mention of this in the release notes) puts huge full screen ads on the app. It also introduces serious performance issues, even on the iPhone 5s.
It's hard to know what to say about all this. Clearly something has gone very wrong with the company. The only thing that makes the game still worth playing is the ability to turn off the ads.
