What's New in Version 2.4.2

Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you for reading The Economist on iPhone.
The Digital Editions Team
I guess I expect a lot from the app because my subscription to the Economist is not cheap. It does the bare minimum, I suppose. There are constant network errors. The app will load when the network is turned off (airplane mode) but if the radio is turned on and you happen to be in an elevator or otherwise have a spotty connection, the app won't even let you past the splash screen and then abruptly crashes, often while you are listening to the audio edition forcing you to find you place again, after you can get it to work. This is completely avoidable as all of the content has already been downloaded. And the audio functionality is awkward and very glitchy. The UI leaves much to be desired. And why does the app have to be in the newsstand? None of my other news outlets have their apps in there. It's a pain. Overall, a major disappointed from a newspaper that obviously understands the importance of digital media. And thank God the in-audio ads only lasted a couple of weeks.
While several fixes have been addressed, I now have constant problems with an "unable to connect to internet" while listening to audio. This renders all in app functions useless, in particular "pause" (annoying) and I must hit "ok" in multiple boxes before the app resumes. This occurs even when I have the app fully 3/4G enabled and/or am connected to the internet. The app should run a fully downloaded issue without needing to constantly check the internet.
Please resolve. Errors with failure to download full audio seem to be improving, for the most part, thank you.
The Economist Magazine
My only major concern I have is if I haven't finished reading a weekly issue after a certain amount of time it is no longer available to be read. If I've bought the issues, all issues should continue to be accessible. If you bought a hard copy, it's yours to keep, and so should be the case with the electronic version. Please tell me that it is possible for me to still view my old magazines whenever I want to and how to find them. Please get back to me on this.
