Flapcraft is a cheerfully addictive game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, where you play as a handsome Viking doing tricks in the air by flying on a wooden log.
Short but Sweet
This game is absolutely beautiful, the character design is amazing. Gameplay is addictive and the controls are spot on.
Here are some negatives:
Game is really short.
Power ups are too controlled. The money system is pretty useless because you need to buy items in order to get enough money to buy the next. The items are too limited, it would have been better to have fewer items but have the ability to level up each item.
Stages are too limited. Each stage feels like a tutorial, do one certain task to clear a level, move onto the next. This does not allow for much freedom. As I was playing the game I kept checking to see if I was still in a tutorial.
Honestly if this was a "how far can you go type game" it would be among the best.
Delightful, beautiful game worth every cent!
As an example of what can be done with Pixelmator this us success, every pixel is gorgeous. I knew Pixelmator is powerful and I can't wait for version 2 but I certainly underestimated it.
As a stand alone game, it's delightful! Flapcraft isn't just a proof of concept but a rich — if admittedly short — well-designed game with a strong attention to detail. It's also a lot of fun.
Is it over priced? No, it's dead on. With the work that went it to the craftsmanship of a terrific game, half a cup off coffee is fair.
Hyperbole aside, I can't beat the last level. It's driving me nuts trying to figure out the right strategy.
This game is certainly one of the best on the App Store. The art is just beautiful and makes the game much more enjoyable. Next I think they should make a Flapcraft 3D. It should be the same as Flapcraft, just from the first-person point of view of the viking. That would be an awesome game to play, especially if there was a beard flapping in your view. Please also add more upgrades and levels!
Update: I just noticed that it is impossible to equip old upgrades or go back to just the standard log without resetting the game progress. I would like to be able to do this, so please add that option!
