The navigation platform is different from the usual, which is not necessarily a bad thing. At first the ever-present mag glasses and footprints were annoying but I got used to them. To travel back a scene you had to hit the footprint, not just the bottom of the screen. This was a bit irritating at first, but it actually was a good thing because there was less chance of accidentally backing out of a scene. There is a map but it is not a teleporting one so not much use. I do not like it when, to remove four nails, you have to pick up your hammer from inventory four times and place it on each nail. This game does that.
The game itself was fun and interesting, and a decent length. The puzzles were mid-range challenging but totally doable.
The opening movie scene was incredible! Great graphics, I felt like I was actually on the sea. Sadly, the 2D graphics of gameplay didn't measure up. They weren't bad, just nowhere near the quality of the 3D.
All in all an enjoyable and interesting game.
Fantastic and now a Favorite
I really enjoyed this game's challenge of diverse puzzles, well designed HO screens, the maps, the hints that don't give it away, and the richly satisfying length of this game. There have been some very nice games in the past, where some are too short or the HO screens are wanting in some way such as objects with tiny size or other trickery. This game, for me, truly presents itself as a high standard of quality that I have trouble finding any fault with. Looking forward to more and I hope that any sequel will not be disappointing. The only part of this game that gave functional challenge was navigating the inventory at the bottom of the screen. Once I started using a stylus for the arrows to scroll through the inventory, even that problem was resolved. HIGHLY recommend this game for all those who love interactive HOGs with logical puzzles.
Not one of Big Fish's best
I wish I could be more positive about this game. The story is engaging and the artwork is truly gorgeous. However, several shortcomings add up to ensure that this one doesn't enter the pantheon of Big Fish's best hidden object games.
First, the game is pretty skimpy on hidden object finding. The predominant thing you do is run around "solving" simple lock-and-key object transporting problems. I say "problems" rather than "puzzles" because the game pretty much tells you exactly what you need to find in every case. There's little thought involved.
Unfortunately, even that is more tedious than it needs to be because the individual screens, though beautiful, don't add up to a physically coherent layout. You rarely see any landmarks that are shared by more than one image, so you never get much of a real sense of place of this elaborate undersea graveyard.
Finally, the hidden object puzzles are all of the "pile of junk" variety. There's no attempt made to integrate them into the surrounding scenery. Each hidden object scene has its own screen, so you lose the surrounding context. Objects aren't really hidden, they're just plopped together with other objects to create obscurity.
