Useful but has flaws
When working properly, this is a decent ebook library app. I like the ease of checking out books without having to fuss with downloading and transferring files, and the selection is pretty good (though that last part might be more a function of my library system, I'm not sure).
However, the reliability of the app can be spotty, especially if you are somewhere without wifi/3G like the subway or on a plane. 10-20% of the time, I'll open the app and read a few pages before an error message pops up and crashes the app. There are books only available on this app though, so I'm willing to put up with the inconvenience as it does work well the rest of the time.
The category browsing function is clunky too, but I suppose the expectation is that you have a particular title in mind.
Also, please note you cannot use this with your kindle (regular/paperwhite), which would be nice.
Solid app, but needs a dictionary feature.
I do most of my library-book reading on the Overdrive app, but a few weeks ago when I couldn't find a book in the Overdrive collection, I downloaded this 3M app and it did have the book I had wanted. I've used it quite a bit since, and mostly I really like it; I like the way the collection is organized, the user interface, and the bookmarking feature, which lets you type notes to yourself on each bookmark, on what looks like a Post-It. The one thing that kind of drives me nuts is that there's no dictionary feature! In Overdrive, you can highlight a word and then tap to look it up in a dictionary. You do need internet access to use the dictionary feature, but I don't find that too terribly inconvenient, and I'd like this 3M app to include a similar feature in a future update.
Great, but wish...
I regularly use this app to check out/ read books from our local library on my 1st generation iPad. It works great- never crashes, have had no problems at all.
My big wish is that the app would work on my Kindle paperwhite. Two main reasons: ability to read on device in bright sunlight and more importantly... the Kindle weighs so much less than the iPad (which really makes a huge difference in the arthritis in my hands). There are times I am unable to use the iPad due to the weight and must only read on the Kindle. During those bad days I am unable to take advantage of the 3M app at all.
