• We’ve vastly improved push notifications. Love it! - but needs some bug-squishing

Gregoire1970

Downgraded from 5 to 3 stars; reason below original review.

I don't think this app deserves the bad reviews it gets here. I used to use WU Storm and loved it but sadly it has gone without updates for a long time and its reincarnation under the Weather Channel brand is quite horrible. WU Forecast however packs almost everything I liked about the original Storm in some form or another and it suits me very well. All I need to know is there in a glance. A few of the tiles are of no interest to me -to each his or her own- but it's simple to disable them.

I would love to see two things from the original Storm app:
- an option for composite data;
- a road conditions layer when viewing the map.

If they were to be incorporated I'd give it six stars.

Edit:

Somehow the little map that’s right on top of the screen doesn’t get updated when I open the app. I need to really close the app (double click the home button and swipe it upwards) and restart before I see an updated map with correct radar. That’s both on my iPad Pro and my iPhone 8. Also some of the sections regularly stay blank. For instance quite often the sunrise/sunset section is completely blank when I scroll down. When I scroll to the bottom of the screen and then back up, it’ll display all data. Same happens with the detail section.

So it needs some bug fixing. Went from 5 stars to 3 because of this. Once this has been sorted out I’ll go back to five.

Great for most things, Smart Forecasts act odd

BethN3

Most of the app runs great and I really appreciate it. (Night mode is wonderful.)

One issue I recently noticed: Smart Forecasts will list the very edge of acceptable conditions (for example: 40 degrees for biking) as ideal, and then start saying that 42 is less ideal and 49 is even less ideal, until it reaches the properly ideal range (50-80) at which point it will jump back up to ideal. So, instead of a day looking like a nice bell curve with the ideal parts of it being in the center, it looks like an inverted bell curve, with an interruption of ideal in the center. It caused me a bit of confusion until I sat down and analyzed what was happening. Not a big issue, but it would be great to have fixed. I’ve started using Smart Forecasts quite a bit recently, and it would be great to have it be more intuitive.

Games

Thanks for altering this app to remove the problem I wrote about in February- see below. It’s one thing to run ads- totally understandable- but the games that couldn’t be exited were a step too far. I’m enjoying using the app again. Thank you.
(Original review: “I’ve loved and used WU for many years, but now, in 3 days, unless something changes, I’m going to delete the mobile app from my phone, because when closing pages (such as the radar map) to return to the main screen, a stupid game pops up, which is 100% unacceptable, but even more unacceptable- most of the time I can’t even escape from the game without closing the app. This is a very stupid thing you’ve done, WU, and I’m fed up with it, so in 3 days I will delete if this persists.”)
