Here's what you need to know.
Oozes with quality as any square enix game should. Great sound, graphics and amazing environment. This is a very solid game. The story is above average. The battles are not groundbreaking though they are enough to keep you satisfied. It lost one star from me for a couple small issues that I have with it. One star losing reason is the talking. They have annoying sounding Japanese voice overs. To add to that, it kind of drags on with boring conversations and it seems like you cannot skip to the next speaker until you've tapped the screen a few times. These would normally be very small issues for me but there is quite a bit of talking. That means that if I cannot get used to the overly intense Japanese people constantly about to reach over 9000 then I may just put it down and need a few beers before I pick it up again.
So, here's the bottom line the way I see it. This game is one for the elitist collector. The talking can be annoying at times but nothing a few brews can't fix. If you don't drink then hopefully the great story and solid overall gameplay and amazing music will outweigh minor annoyances. I don't think that it's small issues should prevent any rpg fan from buying and enjoying this epic game.
SquareEnix outdoes itself
Chaos Rings 1 was interesting, not the greatest and repetitive, but still fun and definitely showed the core of all SquareEnix RPGs.
Chaos Rings 2 is just another level of amazing entirely. SquareEnix clearly took feedback from the first two Chaos Rings seriously and made this one a huge improvement. Backgrounds are gorgeous, soundtrack is glorious and definitely bears the epic signature SquareEnix sound. Gameplay is not significantly changed, which I found to be probably the one negative point. Plot-wise, it's slightly confusing at the beginning, but it quickly tumbles into a roller coaster. Without any spoilers, there is such a crazy plot twist that your mind and emotions will be blown.
I will say this is a very stark, gritty game that is targeted towards an older audience. It is probably inappropriate for younger children.
Worth the money
It took me a while to actually complete this game. And by the end, I thought it'd delete it since it was taking up to much space, but I can't I just keep playing over and over again. Chaos Rings 2 is way better than the first one, and has a bigger, longer and more detailed crafted story. Sure the price may be very high, but its a full game wirth your time, Square Enix has here the best game they have done so far.
