Dream:ON is showing results for about 50% of users who try it for a several nights in a row. It will not work for everyone and can take a number of nights to see results.
Approach the experiment with an open mind, try and forget your taking your phone to bed and remember controlled dreaming is not like turning on a tap, for some users it works the first night, others can take longer. As soon as you awake, complete the Dream Diary and feed back via the app so that we can continue to improve Dream:ON.

— HOW DOES IT WORK? —
Put your device on the corner of the bed before going to sleep and Dream:ON begins monitoring your sleep pattern.
When it senses that you are dreaming, it plays a 'SoundScape' which has been crafted to help create your desired dream.

— THE SCIENCE —
Research has shown that most our dreams occur during REM sleep and that your mind is particularly alert to other senses during this stage of sleep.
Dream:ON plays the 'SoundScape' to your subconscious during REM.
Almost everyone dreams several times each night. However, research suggests that people vary in their ability to incorporate the SoundScapes into their dreams and it may take several nights before Dream:ON is effective.
Lucid and controlled dreaming is not a new concept, however, using an iPhone to identify when you are at your most responsive, is. For many people who have mastered the art of lucid dreaming, this was a skill learnt over many years.
— THE EXPERIMENT —
You can view a graph of your movement during your sleep, tag Facebook friends who appeared in your dreams, and post a short description of your dream to our experimental 'Dream Bank'.
The 'Dream Bank' will be used to examine lots of different issues, including whether men and women differ in their dreams, how dreams vary with age, and if world events impact on the nation's dreams. All data sent to Dream:ON is totally anonymous.

Version 2.0.2 fixes a crash some people had when launching after the last update.
We have spent a lot of time reviewing all the feedback, and have made a whole bunch of improvements for version 2.0:

I LOVE THIS APP!! I have a dream 9 times out of 10 times I use this! I don't know why I never hear the soundscapes though. Each dream has a theme of what you would like your dream to be about and I think that's really cool. Although, I usually don't dream about what my theme is. There has been a few times where I did so I'm glad about that, as long as i dream i am happy. Also when I use this I tend to remember my dreams and I usually forget them. They give you a dream log where you can write what it was about and it also shows what time you were sleeping the lightest and heaviest. The lucid dreams are my favorite because you can sometimes tell that your dreaming. I was telling the people in my dream last night as a matter of fact lol. One thing I will say is that you might want to turn off some notifications if they are a little louder cause it might wake you up. Some people said they couldn't dream on the first night but i did. everybody is different, just be patient, they give you enough free ones for you to get a variety of chances so that's a plus! I just downloaded a bunch of new dreams a few moments ago and I can't wait to try Them all! I'm going to recommend this to all my friends and family. I hope they keep up the good work and make a breakthrough somewhere on how people dream, so far they are doing a great job!!
I was eager to participate in Professor Wiseman's dream research, but this app has never worked very well for me. I downloaded it the day it was released (and spent money on all the non-lucid soundscapes, many of which are now free), and had several nights of "not enough data". They updated, and it seemed to be working better. The last several mornings, I keep getting woken by the soundscapes (which sound bizarre to me and I can't quite understand what imagery they're trying to produce), leaving me feeling groggy and briefly paralysed (so at least the soundscapes *do* seem to be going off during REM). Many mornings, I end up exiting the app and setting a "countdown" alarm in another app so I can get some more sleep and recover from the groggy. To "add insult to injury", I have remembered maybe 3 dreams since commencing use of the app, none of which coordinated with any soundscape description. I certainly don't remember any dreams on the mornings the soundscape wakes me up. Although at the time I figured buying soundscapes was a further way to support the research and help it improve, I now regret having spent money on this app. And I had such hopes.
Where Are My Happy Dreams??
I downloaded this app after listening to Mr. Wiseman's interview on the "You Are Not So Smart" podcast, and very excited to try it out. I have always been a vivid (never lucid) dreamer and fascinated with dream manipulation. The first night I chose "Peaceful Garden" and had a very non-peaceful cult/chase/anxiety dream. Nonetheless, I really wanted this experience to work so I tried again last night and chose the "Rainforest (lucid)" soundscape -- Not Fun! I ended up lucid dreaming in the sense that I realized I was in my dream, but freaked out in the dream and couldn't wake up. I essentially got stuck in a dream loop, where you think you wake up until something extremely terrifying happens and you are still stuck in the dream. Finally, I was able to wake up, never heard the soundscape itself, but let me tell you....I closed out that app soo fast and slept and dreamt blissfully the remainder of the night.
Even after my two scary nights, I'm not giving up quite yet. I will try this app again tonight (third times a charm?) and think "bubble gum and unicorn" thoughts before I go to sleep.
