Get Plain Text

Open the Mac App Store to buy and download apps.
If you’ve used the copy/paste functions in Mac OS before, you’ll appreciate how valuable Get Plain Text is! We use it ourselves every day. This app will lower your stress level and save you tons of time!
---Ready for Yosemite!---
Get Plain Text is a practical utility program to process text within Mac OS: It converts copied text into plain text.
It instantly removes everything unneeded: colours, typeface size, style (for example, boldface/italics), hyper-links, images, etc. In other words, everything that isn’t plain text! Now you can put plain text in your letters and documents using the copy/paste functions, without having to clean it up manually.
Get Plain Text will convert any bit of text into plain text, no matter where you copied it from (a website, PDF document or elsewhere). You can activate the feature manually, or check “Automatically remove formatting” to make the app take care of it every time you copy something.
What's New in Version 1.4
At last! Keyboard shortcut setup!
Excellent! Essential and handy.
It’s surprising this isn’t an OSX feature. By default, the app automatically removes formatting from text that you copy to the clipboard. For example, if you copy 72pt bold italic text from an article headline and then paste it in an email, the pasted headline text will match the rest of your email’s typed text (e.g. 12 point Helvetica without bold or italics). This app saves you the time and trouble of manually reformating the entire email. Handy!
Even if you prefer to retain formatting by default, this app is still helpful. Click the the menubar icon and uncheck “Automatically clear formatting.” Then, if you wish to remove formatting from text that you’ve copied, click “Clear formatting from clipboard” or use the handy shortcut. Easy!
button is just drop down menu and can’t customize keyboard shortcuts
Updating review and upgrading the rating from one star to two as you can now remove text formatting with a keyboard shortcut. However, you still can not paste unformatted text without clearing formatting first. They should upgrade this feature to allow a paste without formatting keyboard shortcut, then it would be a perfect app. There are a lot of apps like this in windows, and we need one for mac.
This app is just a button that goes to a drop down menu and you can’t customize keyboard shortcuts to paste plain text, making it just as cumbersome as using text pad to remove formatting. I contacted support about it and they said they would "forward my suggestions to the developers”. I’d be happy to update this review and rating if they end up fixing it. The app has a lot of potential, but unfortunately at the moment is pretty worthless.
I’ve had this app for years. one of my favorites
Every time I set up a new Mac, there are a few utilities that I always install first (caffeine, Alfred, Hazel, etc…) this one is on that list. I manage a corporate website, so I wind up converting a lot of content from Office docs to HTML, so plain text is a must. CMD+SHIFT+K is now 2nd nature to me. Get Plain Text has saved me so much work!
