Okay it does work. Scan the whole page.
Whether or not to download this app has definitely been the biggest decision I have made this week. What's the worst that can happen? Right? Well it turns out the worst thing that can happen is you spend all night trying to make it work, but let me save you the trouble. Scan the whole page and not just the icon. They really should mention this in the instructions, but they don't. Now, is it worth it? Meh, it did the page flip thing and Steve Wacker started yelling at me and I dropped my phone. Maybe I'll try it again later. You really should be able to scroll through the video or pause it or something, but whatever. At least I can stop having those nightmares where Mike Allred invites me to his birthday party via this app and I miss it because of all the bad reviews.
Great idea, poor implementation
Great idea, poor implementation. The camera is often tricky, but with a little patience is easy to work around (pulling back seems to help, as does proper lighting). The buffering is a bigger issue, as it gets very laggy, seemingly at random. Another issue is that the content never seems to have an "end." I find myself constantly asking "Is it done playing, or is it just caught in an endless buffer?" Most importantly, the content is rarely of any value. I don't need narration; I just read it. I don't need a welcome from the author; I could care less when I'm getting my superhero fix. I don't need to see every page in the book in black and white in addition to color. Know what would be great, Marvel? More backstory for the characters we're reading -- that IS the whole point of Marvel Now, isn't it? To get new people involved in reading your books? Use the AR function to give us information, not reading aloud the page we've just read.
Crap Content, decent app
The app itself works fine but doesn't always immediately recognize the page or AR logo or whatever it is supposed to read to bring me the "related" video. It also seems to store the video/data and there's no deleting it. It got to 850MB worth before I deleted and reinstalled the app. Not a huge deal but worth bringing it down a star if those were the ONLY problems ...
The worst part about this app is not the engineering or design but the CONTENT! These videos are ridiculously off topic 9 out of 10 times! The editors are trying to be funny and hog the spotlight with lame, poorly produced skits about life on a farm (for example) when I'm thinking I'm going to get some background information on Guardian or The Accuser!
I'm so desperate for background information on the panel the AR logo appears on that I keep stupidly watching the videos but now cut out after 2 seconds of realizing it's a waste of time.
WASTE OF TIME!!!
