The Tempest for iPad is a collaboration of renowned scholars from the US and Europe, along with Actors from the London Stage. The Tempest uses digital materials from master teachers and the archives of the Folger Shakespeare Library – the world's premiere destination for the combined study, performance, preservation and teaching of Shakespeare's works.
The Tempest was the first play printed in Shakespeare’s First Folio of 1623, thought to be inspired by European discoveries of the New World. Its hauntingly beautiful verse makes it among the most frequently performed and beloved of Shakespeare’s plays.

Good for HS students
My 10th grade students found this a very helpful way of accessing The Tempest. It was especially useful to hear actors read the entire play aloud. Elliott Visconsi’s commentary was also useful, and I even used it as part of a plagiarism assignment. There are a couple tweaks I would love to see in an update, to facilitate annotating: first, selecting text right now is clumsy, and you can only select entire lines rather than key words or phrases; second, it would be great if we could email annotations rather than use Facebook (because who’s really on Facebook with their students?).
This app was well worth it. I look forward to their next play - I'll buy whatever they develop. I liked every feature and found all worked as advertised.
