MIDI Guitar is the world’s first app to transcribe guitar playing into MIDI. The transcription runs in real-time, with latency and accuracy comparable to expensive and inconvenient hardware MIDI guitar solutions.
MIDI guitar is 6 years under development(!) and based upon new patent-pending polyphonic pitch detection and –prediction technology that can accurately recognize polyphonic signals, such as complex chords or finger-playing with very low latency and without spurious hits.
MIDI Guitar use WIFI-MIDI to communicate with digital audio workstations in a frictionless setup, Virtual MIDI to drive other iOS synth apps using Apple’s virtual MIDI standard, Cable-based MIDI to control hardware synths or connect to DAWs with lowest possible latency.
In order to use MIDI Guitar you need a iPhone 4s, iPad 2, iPod5 or later. Using older devices may work for some purposes. You also need a guitar interface for best results. We recommend the iRig, but other interfaces should work as well. Using an acoustic guitar with the built in microphone might work for some purposes but is not optimal.
Virtual, Cable and WIFI MIDI can be evaluated in the free version, with interruptions. Full version is without interruptions.
Note that WIFI-MIDI is only supported on the Windows platform via 3rd party apps.

What's New in Version 2.0
- MAJOR tracking and latency improvements! Now runs the same engine as the renowned MIDI Guitar VST/AU version.
I've been using a Roland midi guitar system for more than 10 years, so I've got some experience in this area. I tested this on an ipad1 which isn't fully supported, but it worked quite well. I was able to cleanly trigger sounds in the iOS version of GarageBand. Single notes and chords played equally well. I also set up a midi over wifi system between the ipad and my Mac and was able to trigger all kinds of soft synths without any problems. Tracking was great and very smooth, other than the beta timeouts.
My only gripe is with the pricing for the full version. I think they're missing the mark here. By pricing it at $20 you're only going to attract a small customer base of guitarists who would have a real 'need' for this kind of tool. If it were priced at the normal app price of $1-$3 or so, you'd get an order of magnitude more people willing to buy it just to have as something to fool around with. After all GarageBand itself is only five bucks. Hopefully they'll rethink their approach here. But they've done some great work here, regardless.
VooDoo inside - 2.0 Update ROCKS!!!!
Wow, this thing is magical. As stated by another reviewer, works comparably to a (much more costly) Roland midi guitar setup. Note recognition is simply impressive. Only issue is latency which I expect the developer will improve with time. Very useable with the right synth patches.. soft or slow attacks. Hard, fast attack patches will only work/feel right at slower tempos. But whatever, its amazing for a measly five bucks. Please buy and support its development. The technology under the hood is groundbreaking!!!!
-The 2.0 Update is Awesome!! Latency so low you can play drum patches. Would like to see more control options like in the desktop version, but it works REALLY REALLY good just the way it is. Absolutely the most exciting app I own. Easily worth 100x more!!
These guys must of did something supernatural to get this app to work this good. I've been a guitar and keyboard player for over 30 years now and I've seen midi guitar interfaces come and go, never really working. Roland makes the best, for around $800. Though this app isn't perfect it does work. Both polyphonic and monophonic are awesome. It did take me a little time to figure it out and get it to work but it works fine with GarageBand, Animoog and Sunrise, also I used This app to control Sunrise ran it through Audiobus into Cubasis and it worked fine. Latency was extremely low, not enough to effect the playability of the app.....all that for $20!!!!!
