Great for what it is, but could have been better.
On the iPod 4th Gen it runs and look great. On the iPod 5th Gen, which I've upgraded to recently, it plays and looks even better.
I really love the free-roaming and web-slinging. Gameplay/Graphics seem to be in-between the first PSX Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 for the Ps2, so very good for an iOS game. You can web-sling all over but it doesn't have the best mechanics, better than the older Spidey games where it just attached to the sky but not as good as Spider-Man 2 or Web of Shadows. I've found that Spidey tends to just fall, no matter how high off the ground I am nor how firmly I hold my finger on the jump/swing button and he won't resume swinging unless I hit the button over and over.
There's two extra costume you can get in-game, the Human Spider (the red hoodie) and the Black Symbiote Costume The first is pretty expensive and will take awhile to get, but the latter is over double that price so don't expect to get it for a long time. With this new update, the costumes actually do somethings (hoodie increases XP and Spider Points while symbiote increases power).
Overall, I did buy it at full price, but I wish I'd waited until it had gone on sale (especially since it recently was on sale for only $0.99). I do recommend it, but I don't feel it's worth $7.
Initial Impression: Pretty Bad
Having played the PC version of the game, I hoped it would at least look good. But it honestly doesn't. The graphics from Ultimate Spiderman were better, which was years past on the PS2. We've seen how great it can look on games like Injustice: God's Among Us on the iOS. But it just looks terrible imo. In fact, I expected with the terrible graphics it would be fluid. But it isn't. For example, the fast kicks are unfluid as heck. In fact, fighting animations in Fire Emblem (GBA) were better. Game Boy Advanced!
This game played exactly like Ultimate Spiderman with bad controls and worse graphics. In fact, if this were projected on a big TV, it would probably be pixelated! All the good mechanics that improve gameplay from the Console version of the Amazing Spiderman like having no actual anchorpoint for the webs were removed. The fighting is extremely bland, blander than the PC version. The dodge seemed to have almost no point really, because you could just spam the attack button and win.
The only good thing was that you can websling around the city, seriously.
In conclusion, this felt like a quick money stealer without a point. Just to advertise the movie. If you really want to websling, get it, because that's the only enjoyment you'll get out of it.
Game is great, not Seven dollar great.
Amazing game, however not really $6.99 great, as the price does not truly stand amongst the title in general. Perhaps a more suitable price would maybe, $3.99? $2.99?
The graphics are stupendously impressive, as all Gameloft games are. However, I'm a little baffled as to why is it that when I closely observe the graphics in the actual gameplay in contrast to the "cutting-edge" graphics displayed rather well in screenshots, that they seem to, perhaps, differ rather significantly. As the images evidently display tremendously stunning graphics that rival the limited qualities similar to that of a PS2's. But when I play the game, my device seems to display something... totally different. Regardless, despite this rather diminutive problem, the mechanics and the gameplay is beyond magnificent and deemed worthy of your purchasing if you're a diehard Spidey fan.
By the way, storyline... not so great. But hey? Can't ask for everything, right? I assure you that you'll be destined to forget all about the bland and remarkably perfunctory storyline while swinging around the reduced New York City with great assuagement.
