So far, so good
I only just started playing this game, but it seems to exemplify what I really look for in a good casual game of this type. The hero is a woman; the hidden object scenes reflect the plot, as opposed to containing a bunch of random and improbable items; and there is no drippy romance or overload of pink, "girly" items, even though the game is about the fashion world. Most importantly, the hero seems to be intelligent.
The only reason I don't give this five stars is because in my mind, only games like The Walking Dead deserve that honor. The Walking Dead actually made me cry, and it had characters with whom I built a connection. It was morally complex and had excellent puzzles and game mechanics. While this game isn't in that league, it's still quite good and should give a few hours of entertainment.
I consider this to be a solid 3 1/2 - 4 star game.
I'm reviewing this just to stop the game from nagging me every five minutes to rate it! It's not a very good game, so I'm not sure why they are so desperate to get ratings...
I'm toward the end, I think. It desperately needs a zoom function. Luckily I have good eyes, but the objects you seek are so minuscule, it gives you a headache. The supposed magnifying glass is useless, you have to put your finger in the middle of it to move it around, blocking the view behind it. If it had a zoom function, I might bump it up one star, but as is, it's annoying and giving me a headache. Actually looking forward to it ending so I can delete it from my iPad to make room for something else.
The story is boring, dialog dull, gameplay is unimaginative. Glad I got it on sale. If it miraculously gets better at the end, they'll regret bugging me for a review before I finish.
Appreciate the freebie but not much fun
I liked the artwork and I appreciate getting the freebie. Unfortunately, This wasn't much fun. They ask you for a review constantly -- that is annoying -- and the soundtrack is awful -- I had to turn it off. The gameplay itself is just room after room of object search. There is no zoom -- the magnifying glass is an awful tour -- and the images are tiny. It seems fairly arbitrary -- e.g., it asks for 2 candles but most of the many candles in the scene do not qualify; it is up to you to figure out what the candles they want look like. Other times the object name is meaningless -- e.g., "fashion design".
Mini games are not interesting either -- find the difference in a scene, in a microscope slide, in a fingerprint database (essentially).
Halfway thru, I started using the hints heavily because I stopped caring. Most of the achievements are achieved with no special effort other than finishing the game.
With or without the hints, the game is short. Thankfully as I wanted to be done with it. Deleting now. Much rather pay and play a higher quality HOG.
