What people are saying:
"Ride-sharing programs like Lyft are providing commuters with less expensive and more social ways to get around. Users log into the app, specify where they’re heading, and a background-checked driver picks them up for less than a typical cab ride." - TODAY Show
“Lyft is a real community — with both the drivers and riders being inherently social — making real friendships and saving money.” - Time
"In a city where taxis can be scarce and… black town cars are rampant but expensive, Lyft has quickly gained visibility due to low prices and quirky branding." - Ad Age
"Lyft's focus on the everyman has recently extended to the wildly successful Lyft Line carpool service aimed at commuters, which offers discounts of 30% to 60% for sharing a Lyft ride with others." - Fast Company
For Lyft drivers, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.
What's New in Version 2.15.0
In this update, we made little adjustments to keep the app running at 100%.
Use this $20 coupon!
First of all, if you haven’t taken a ride yet make sure you use the coupon KUTH1 to get $20 off your first ride! Enter it right before you request a ride. Might as well try it out since it probably won't cost you a thing!
The app is easy to use and intuitive, giving you important info like the driver’s face, phone number, and car make/model. It’s amazing how quick and seamless the entire process is. A car comes to your door within minutes of pressing a button! The drivers are real people, they are very polite and their cars are clean! Some even come with complimentary water and candy! Even if you want to charge your phone, a lot of drivers have car chargers at your ready! With the new Lyft Line it’s cheaper than ever. After all this, I don’t see why you would ever use a cab again.
The customer support is also fantastic. I got overcharged on one of my trips and I didn’t have to say anything more than a comment on my driver feedback to get a refund. I’m very happy and I hope Lyft continues to exceed my expectations in not only the app but customer service! I also prefer Lyft much more than other competitors, mainly because the drivers are more friendly and the company isn’t evil.
It might get you a cab, but Uber is superior in every aspect
When I first have Lyft my credit card info, they charged $30 to my card as a hold. Normally, services charge $1 as a hold which is totally understandable, but $30? Seems like a little much if your on a strict budget. The next problem is that compared to Uber, there are far less drivers readily available (I live in Manhattan) which meant I couldn't use it as often as I wanted because there either simply were no drivers around or there would be a high surcharge, even during off-peak hours. I received a bunch of free rides from Lyft and after using one, I found that they make you pay the tip out of your own pocket, even if you didn't use the total value of your ride. This is another thing Uber does better than Lyft, by including the tip, it's just less of a hassle to ride with Uber. With all that being said, the few rides I've taken with Lyft got me from A to B in a TLC licensed taxi. I just don't see Lyft competing with Uber in the future and I would only recommend Lyft as a last resort or for the one free ride you get for signing up.
They Charged My Card and Refused My Refund!
I don't how else I can start this review off, other than saying I'm deeply disappointed in the efficiency of this app!
To begin with, I requested a "LFT driver" to take my fiancé and I to a nearby restaurant/bar for our anniversary. After waiting 10 everlasting minutes, a LYFT driver told me to cancel the request because "he was too far from my area and it would hurt his rating, otherwise". Fine, I decided to do so. After waiting another grueling 10 minutes for a driver, I finally pair up with a LYFT driver. As I prepared for the ride, the driver abruptly CANCELS the ride.
After thirty minutes of stalling and pure time wasting on a Saturday night, I decided LYFT was not cutting it for us and that they certainly did not deserve our business.
Furthermore, I decided to check my bank statement the next day and noticed there was a $25 LYFT service charge that I did not authorize!!! Apparently if your driver cancels on you, you are still liable for a $25 holding fee. Not was not even the most drastic part about it, when I filed a dispute, they said they to wait a few business days, but as I expected it never was credited to my bank account! Was not sure if there was some sort of scam involved with the LYFT driver, but I reported it to my bank as soon as I could.
At the end of the day, I regret downloading this up. A lot of time and money wasted into this app for a consumer who demanded very little. Two thumbs down!
