I like the fact that you can read books without having to buy them individually. Sometimes I look for books that I want to read or particular authors to see if their books are available and I choose what I want. The change in the number of books allowed doesn't bother me. I have several books waiting for me to read anyway. My only problem why I haven't given five stars is that sometimes when I go to a book in my library that I haven't opened recently, it starts from the beginning. That shouldn't happen. It should keep your place no matter how long it takes for you to get back to reading the book.
Another thing - I noticed that one of my books has the word expiring on it. Don't what that means.
Company seems to be setting fire to shareholders, users and company value all at once. I would pay twice as much for a true unlimited, growing, thoughtful catalogue. New, current subscription now offers no value, zero utility. Three books a month? Wow. I read six to eight titles a month. How Scribd thought NOT offering current, loyal users (I've been a subscriber for 19 months) a higher cost premium service was a good idea I will never know. They are going to lose tons of users and not be able to make up revenue like Netflix did. Contacted customer service and asked about a higher cost, unlimited option and was told "they might look into it." Seriously? I'm done. A company this thoughtless won't get any of my business anymore. The recent rash of one or two sentence five star reviews are suspicious at best.
I see they've deleted almost all previous reviews - that's convenient.
I could deal with slow sync times and a pretty sluggish interface, but with the new 3 books a month, simply not worth it. Sure, there are 150k "free" titles, but they're mostly the kind of titles that wind up in the $1 bargain bin two months after release. For every 1 bestseller (Stephen King or Jodie Picoult) there are countless minor celebrity's biographies or cookbooks, and a fair amount of what looks at a glance to be vanity publishing. There are entire series of "free" books by authors I've never heard of that have no ratings and no reviews. Not sure where I'm going next, but definitely jumping this ship. Not remotely worth it. Thumbs way down. And now I'm discovering that cancelling my membership is not n easy thing to do...hmmm.
