Lame, But What Are the Alternatives?
At first I was pleased to find that Comcast gave me an airplane/hotel room option for watching TV and movies. Here we are a year later as I stare glumly at the never-changing list of shows I can download. Oh sure, every once in a while a Zero Dark Thirty shows up, but the TV and movie fare on this app are as stale as last week's bagel.
Technically the app also leaves a lot to be desired. Even with a fast wi-fi, download times are long. It says you can download 10 titles, but it tells me I'm at 10 even when I'm only at 8. Playing back one title while downloading another seems to ensure that my iPad will lock up, requiring a hard restart. Titles, particularly those affiliated with Showtime constantly move back and forth between "Locked" and available to non-subscribers. Some of the updates are apparently significant enough that it will wipe whatever titles you have downloaded, causing you to start over, assuming you can remember all the titles you had.
All in all it is a royal pain, but I haven't found another option for viewing TV and movie offline.
Good but not great
Many of the TV series have missing episodes so if you decide you want to want Revenge, Greys Anatomy, Californication, Game of Thrones, or whatever beware because episodes will just disappear. I started one series and the first 3 episodes just kept hanging and said tech support has been alerted, could improve and send out an alert when. The fix is added or if I have it in history of a show I like alert me when new episodes are added. Commercials are heinous on this app, I've gotten to the point where I won't watch shows that have commercials because they create endless loops where you get stuck and it won't go back to the show. Upside is having ability to download movies and overall glad I have access to watch on my ipad from anywhere in my house or on the road with good wifi. It's getting better but it's not great yet. Evenxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
I'm not a fan of Comcast. I hate the franchise of not being able to choose over-cable content providers. But the app is fine. If you belong to premium channels you get most of their titles. Download is as expected on dedicated wi-fi. My kiddo gets to watch Einsteins and Mickey Mouse when he wants to. I get to watch movies at bed time without waking him up.
People complaining about long downloads, limited titles, etc need to understand that this is a service comparable to your current content bundle (or realize YGWYPF when downloading the third season of GoT while sipping your mochas at the coffee shop or airport business lounge).
They also need to harken back to the pre-2009 dark ages where we could barely get a signal, much less content, on our mobile devices.
