MTA Subway Time
By Metropolitan Transportation Authority
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
MTA Subway Time gives you real-time train arrival information for selected routes of the New York City subway system. Knowing exactly when your train will arrive will reduce the time you spend waiting on the subway platform, and let you know of any service delays or reroutes before you pay your fare.
What's New in Version 2.1
Interface update and new R line has been added. all lettered line stations will be added over the time.
It's TERRIBLE Now
This app has literally gone backwards in function and design by at least 6-7 years. Not sure what happened.
The design looks like how the internet looked when the internet first came out.
Not intuitive at all - it doesn't automatically put your subway line choices at the closest stop to where you are at like the old app did...for example, if I'm near the 4/5 Wall Street stop, when I choose the 4/5 lines the choices that first come up should be the stops that are closest to my current location. Again, the old version of the app used to do this…we’ve gone backwards here people. What happened?
Doesn’t identify trains that are currently in the station--they used indicate trains in station by lighting them up in yellow.
No refresh button to update times like the old version had....again what happened? This was super useful when needing real-time arrivals of the trains.
They don’t display as many upcoming trains as they did before.
There used to be updates like “Delays” and “Service Changes”…none of that exists anymore that I can tell.
They took everything that was good about the old App and threw it out the window.
July 2017 edition not an improvement
The latest design of this app allows you to search for a subway stop which can be useful, but the design took away a couple of features which bring the app down. First, when looking at the arrival times at a particular stop, there is no option/button to refresh the data. Second, you can only see 4 trains per station per direction; at a busier station (i.e. Express stop) serving multiple lines, this may mean seeing only the next train on a particular service, when it would be useful to see at least the next 2.
Room for improvement.
Great direction but loose ends
The app before this update had better functionality. Why do I have to close the app to refresh the subway times? Before we could just click refresh - bring that back. Or make it more iOS-like with pull to refresh. Also, in the same screen of subway times, you could click to get info on delays, etc. Bring that back. I like the overhaul but those missing functions make me not want to use it anymore.
