****** The Adventure ******
Lemuria, the underwater city of the Ancients, has been rediscovered after thousands of years. Archaeologists and mages were sent to investigate. Your team of heroes has been called to protect the researchers from the increasingly hostile sea creatures. However, not everything is as it seems in these ancient ruins. What's truly hidden within Lemuria? Can you solve the mystery of the Sunken City?
****** Game Highlights ******
*** Every character class is unique. Will you pick the Bard, who can scan for enemy weaknesses and help solve puzzles? Will you pick the Morph, who can mimic enemy attacks and clone their stats? Or will you pick the Wizard, who can level waves of enemies instantly with powerful spells? 8 different classes, 8 completely different play styles.
*** All weapons, items, and monster stats are randomly generated every game.
*** From flooded caves to labyrinthine corridors to undersea restaurants. Your heroes will explore a variety of underwater locations.
*** “Final Fantasy Legend” (or Saga in JP) inspired combat system where nearly every item has limited uses.
*** Pick "Normal Mode" for a fun, casual RPG. Or dare the "Hardcore Mode" for a challenging old school experience.
*** Although Sorceria 2 takes place in the same world as Sorceria 1, Sunken City is a completely new story with new characters. It is not necessary to play Sorceria 1 prior to this game.
Old school fun
Overall a good classic RPG. Lots of exploration, treasures, and turn based combat. The art is decent and the music is too. This could be a 5 star if not for a few problems. #1 - Inventory glitches: there is very limited inventory space, and web trying to have one character take an item in an empty slot just doesn't work and the item equips to another character and a couple times even disappeared. #2 - Backtracking: The game requires multiple passes through some lengthy areas with repetitive monsters; it can get tedious. #3 - No maps: Now, the developer said he intentionally left no maps to make the underground city seem more maze like, but ultimately makes the game seem more aimless. If there was a wider camera perspective this would be ok, but it's close so it feels more like following a rat in a cheese maze (not in a good way). A basic minimap showing general door directions or simply a quest objective arrow could easily remedy this. Maybe an update can fix some of these issues with inventory and navigation. Despite these flaws, it's still a fun game and totally worth the price for any old school RPG fans.
If you can play through the bugs, this game is enjoyable. The main issues for me were the frustrating controls and bugs with inventory management. I hit an occasional crash or freeze glitch too so be sure to save often.
But all told I enjoyed this classic take on an underwater rpg adventure.
I'm not writing a review so often but I wrote this because the bugs make me stop playing in the middle half. I saved the game and loaded, then I realized that my fighter was set power stat to zero. At frist I do think why don't you give me a map but after I passed several dungeons, I didn't need it anyway. I want to give 4 stars but minus one for the bugs!
