My 1-year old can do this!

My son will be 2 in about 3 weeks, but it still technically 1. He has a handful of phrases he says, and has started to recognize letters. I bought this app 2 days ago, and each day he has played it for about 10 minutes each day. At first, he wasn’t understanding the concept of moving the colored letter over to the gray/hollowed out space where the letter should go. But today, he opened the app on his own, picked a word, and did it all by himself! He did it again on the same word, and then moved to the next one. It’s amazing to watch him match up the letters to words like “nibble” “underneath” and “vegetable" and then say it out loud, and then watch the little characters demonstrate the word, thereby helping to learn the meaning! I guess I was expecting little words like “cat”,”dog” “bird”, “frog” - and to see these multi-syllable words, and he’s still INTERESTED… it’s amazing!
I’m very impressed with this app, and hope he goes to it everyday for a few minutes. It has made a difference in just 2 days!

Excellent vocabulary enhancer.

Colorful, interactive, easy to navigate. Eye-catching graphics and ear-catching audio.

As an educator (10+years early elementary), I prefer the method that this app teaches the alphabet. While “learning the ABC’s” is also important, learning about letters at a young age within the context of actual words I think is terrific. Also, the chunks of time where the child can’t interact with the game are EXTREMELY short. So the quick “I’m bored now, clicking to something else” factor is lessened somewhat. Overall, extremely useful for kids any age that can effective interact with the iPad.

I note regarding a previous review complaining about the word difficulty. If you have a child in a pre-reading stage (let’s say 3 years old +) then something like “Endless Reader” would be more-appropriate AS A READING PREP. This game, while it’s packed with fairly complex words, is still really more of an alphabet-builder. That being said, a child just starting to read could very well come back to this game and really enhance their vocabulary going forward.

(Final note: For the record, I don’t know the developers of this game from a hole in the ground. I’m gushing about it because I have a 2-3 year old and have been through dozens of mostly-worthless “education” apps. Can’t speak about the prices versus the “going rate” for educational apps. I just know the learning component is worthwhile.)

Fun and enjoyable way to learn letters

I first bought this app for my daughter when she was a little over a year old. Oh was it so worth the relatively high price for an iPad game. The game itself is that easy to play, and the little cartoon rewards are both educational and fun. Two years later, it's still one of her favorite games, and still pretty guilt free for me as I know how well she has learned her letters because of it. The only thing I wish is that they added some simpler vocabulary words as well, but I since found Endless Reader which focuses on the simpler sight-words. Endless Numbers is also well worth the price.
