DOUBLE TAP TO TOGGLE SMART PANEL
Now you can double tap anywhere on the page to jump into Smart Panel. When it's on, double tap anywhere to turn it off.
Oh, and your Smart Panel preference now saves universally. Set it however you want and it'll stay that way the next time you open a book.
We also fixed an issue where Smart Panels weren’t showing as large as they should on the iPad.
SHOW FULL PAGE FIRST & LAST FOR SMART PANEL
Sometimes when using Smart Panel it can be difficult to tell when you've started a new page. We've added two new options in the reader: Show Full Page First and Show Full Page Last. When you have these options on, the reader will show the whole page before or after the Smart Panels so you can get a better view of the art and page layout before walking through panel by panel.
To turn these new options on, open any book, tap the Menu icon in the top right and you'll see them under Smart Panel. These also save universally, so set it and forget it.
LANDSCAPE READING MODE
Previously when you turned your device into landscape, it would put two pages up side by side. This wasn’t the most helpful view, so we replaced it.
Now when you turn your device into landscape, the page you're reading will be fit to the width of the device and you can manually pan up and down by dragging. It makes the art big and beautiful and we wish we had a better way to describe it here. Just go try it. It's awesome.
NEWLY REDESIGNED READER
Thanks to all these improvements, we were able to go back and simplify the interface of our reader. We made the loading bar smaller and added a reading progress bar so you can get a general idea of how far through a book you are at a glance. You'll find just two buttons on the top menu: All Pages and Menu.
The All Pages screen got a redesign to match the brand new web reader on Marvel.com. Consistency!
IMPROVED BOOK DELIVERY & READ OFFLINE
We made a ton of improvements to how we create and deliver our digital comics. What does that mean for you? Pages should load more reliably when you're online, and Read Offline books should download faster. In a previous update we improved Read Offline to make it more reliable and for most users it was. But "most users" wasn't good enough, so we took another pass at it. Now it should be even better.
Our goal is for you to read and enjoy our comics, so we'll never pop up a request for reviews in the app. If you love MU, please take the time to leave us a review on the App Store.

Fantastic service, yet an app that could frustrate even the most devout Buddhist monk
I'll keep it short but the Marvel U service is excellent. I generally prefer paper comics but this is a perfect way to read series you want to revisit or continue to read some more current series that are intriguing but not worth the 3.99 per issue to read. However the tug of war I play every day with the app has left me with a growing bald spot. It quits randomly, won't load comics on the first try, second or sometimes third try and worst of all will lock you out and only show the first 3 pages of a comic as if you were just checking it out without registering. If you try to sign out and in to fix this issue (which I don't recommend) it will completely lock you out granting you naught but error messages and a growing hatred for all things. I wish it would get fixed however as I've seen articles dating back to mid 2014 online about these same issues I've decided against holding my breath because eternity is certainly too long.
So Far So Good On iPad Mini
I signed up for this app yesterday and was blown away by the titles offered through this. Everything Marvel is right in the reach of my fingertips. I have not had any issues with downloading titles to my iPad mini. (1st generation refurb.) sometimes I accidentally put it in the zoomed in panel mode when I turn pages, but I have quickly learned how to reverse that by taping the screen and adjusting the settings in the upper right hand corner. The zoom panel feature does come in handy when trying to engage in the artwork and font in a more immersive detail. I think it makes a good feature when used in conjunction with the full page view instead of a primary feature.
Great in theory…
The app is badly designed and difficult to use. For example, under "Browse->Comics Events->Civil War" there appears to be a different set of comics than is listed in "Discover->Civil War: The Complete Event." It's not clear to me why. Additionally, comics appear to be listed in reverse chronological order when browsing events. Finishing an issue presents you with the option to read the next issue in that title, but not the next issue in the recommended reading order for the event.
On top of that, it's quite buggy. It routinely fails to download comics correctly. The guided view—which I use all the time on Comixology—often cuts off text.
I am currently using a free trial of Marvel Unlimited, which I would not hesitate to pay for, except that the experience with the application is so bad. Now I'm not sure if I'll renew one the trial is over, or just read as much as I can while it's free and let it lapse.
