What's New in Version 9.2.21517
In this Hearthstone update we’re preparing the tavern for the Headless Horseman’s Hallow’s End party! We’ve also made some small but important changes to Hearthstone’s mechanics, added a new Hearthstone hero you can acquire via Fireside Gatherings, and fixed some bugs.
Read on for more information!
HA! HA! HAPPY HALLOW’S END! It’s the Headless Horseman’s favorite time of year, and he’s brought lots of tricks and treats to the tavern! From October 24 through November 6 enjoy a treat for logging in each week, a tricky new Tavern Brawl, and dual class Arenas!
**Added the following card backs:
**Unholy – Acquired from achieving Rank 20 in Ranked Play, October 2017
**Gone Fishing – Acquired from achieving Rank 20 in Ranked Play, November 2017
**New Warlock Hero: Nemsy Necrofizzle – Acquired from attending a Fireside Gathering Tavern and playing a Fireside Brawl. Find a Fireside Gathering near you at firesidegatherings.com.
**Fireside Gatherings now have their own game menu!
Gameplay & Updates
**Hearthstone Mechanics Update – We've changed some underlying rules to prevent Wild Pyromancer from triggering off of Mindgames, and Djinni of Zephyrs from triggering off Entomb. Please check out the Upcoming Mechanics Update blog for details!
**Several Friends List options have been bundled into a sub-menu.
**Spells that are canceled by Counterspell will now trigger any “Whenever you cast a spell” and “After you cast a spell” effects.
**Lord Jaraxxus no longer triggers Repentance, Sacred Trial, and Snipe.
**Unlicensed Apothecary now reads: “After you summon a minion, deal 5 damage to your hero.” It will no longer activate from any Evolve effects.
**It is no longer possible to cancel Choose One cards before the choices appear, this should resolve issues where the Choose One effect could be canceled too easily.
**Hearthstone’s engine has been updated to Unity version 5.6.
**Vicious Fledgling can no longer be drafted in the Arena.
**The first two picks in an Arena draft are no longer more likely to include synergy-based cards.
**As part of our ongoing efforts to improve Class balance in the Arena, small appearance rate adjustments have been made to a number of Arena cards.
**Stay up to date on Arena rules on the official forums.
**Resolved an issue with displaying destroyed or countered Secrets on phones.
**Fresh installations of Hearthstone on Macs no longer suffer initial performance degradation.
**Corrected the aspect ratio on iPod Touch devices.

Naysayers are no fun!
Don’t listen to people complain that it is a pay-to-win game. I have played Hearthstone for three years, made top ranked players four times and achieved two golden hero’s all while never purchasing a single card. Yes, you can pay money for cards but if your patient you can get those same cards by opening packs and crafting cards in the game using dust that you can acquire by disenchanting extra cards, cards you don’t use or winning Arena runs. Every time you win three games (not to mention complete quests) you get gold, which is used to buy packs! This is a strategy game pure and simple, the mechanics are almost identical to Magic: The Gathering. (Which you do have to pay for, fyi, while as I’ve said you can play this game and succeed while spending no money) The point is, if you want to be good at this game you can! I particularly enjoy the humor and satyr thrown into making these cards and recommend it for everyone who likes these kind of card games!
Excellent. Don’t believe the haters.
Don’t believe the people complaining about it being pay to win. It’s a collectible card game. Of course you have to collect cards. You don’t hear people complaining that magic the gathering or Pokémon is pay to win. You can play for cheap and have a small collection or just one deck. Or you can spend more and have more. Hearthstone lets you earn packs for free. Something no other card game, online or otherwise, lets you do, and while you can always build your collection faster by buying packs and crafting the cards you need, you can constantly make progress without paying a thing, and in the Wild format, the cards you’ve worked to have will always be legal, so give it a chance, you won’t regret it.
The only game I need
Hearthstone is the only game I keep going back to hear after year. Don’t listen to those who say the game is not balanced. Blizzard is constantly balancing and tweaking Hearthstone for balance. Understanding the meta game, and your own decks are keys to doing well. All card games require some luck, but it’s your skill that will allow you to climb the ranks. You need not spend a dime if you play enough, but buying packs will get you the cards you want faster. The graphics, animation and sound make for a wonderful experience, and expansions keep it fresh. It can be frustrating during losing streaks, but that speaks to the player more than to the game. It’s the only game I MUST own.
