Fun, but man, brutal in wait time
This game is a blast, the graphics are incredible, and the birds are funny and likable. All the reviews about rovio trying to make loads if money...yea...they make it REALLY tempting to just buy a bunch of stuff. The only way I look past that is to just be patient, commit to not buy anything and just rely on the good ol' in game currency. It is possible to do everything with it...it just might take a while...a good loooong while. The birds getting 'tired'? Yea, that's rough, but whatever. The game is seriously so well made graphically. I do wonder though how well those upgrades work...I don't seem to go tons faster when I upgrade my kart, but the handling seems to improve with upgrades. The having to wait thing doesn't bother me too much...all my info is saved through the rovio website and, well, the challenges give me a good virtual sense of accomplishment :)
Rovio, I would suggest making things a LITTLE less expensive to upgrade :/
Thanks for the game!
As someone who once enjoyed Mario Kart I was excited for Angry Birds Go, but Rovio has completely ruined this game's potential in the name of micro transactions (IAP).
Racing has been diminished to short and repetitive tasks governed largely by numbers and upgrading, which enable more short and repetitive tasks. Karts have very little character and are shared between the familiar Rovio cast. Short races are metered with timers and expensive upgrades serve only to make the kart look less crappy and speed progress through the boring stat upgrade process to real other stat upgrade processes sooner.
Until now, Rovio knew how to make a game with IAP which remained fun to play. Now they have crossed the line into destroying the potential of a game to make something frustrating in an effort to extract money.
Get the new Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed instead. Sure, it costs a small amount up front, but it far better captures the spirit of this genre and you can progress quite reasonably in it without additional IAP. And better still, you can have a good time in the process.
Money grubbing rovio
This game is fun, yes. But unless you put forth some serious cash you're gonna be stuck with a selection of one crap cart, and a bunch of tired birds that need to nap for 6 hours to get their full energy back. At first the blatant ads and "freemium" content didn't bother me but Rovio is trying to get people to pay ridiculous amounts of money just to make the game easy. The In-app-purchases aren't like different yet comparable content, instead it's just much faster, better looking carts. I understand that Rovio has bills to pay but $50 for a cart that you can only use on one level should be a crime. As if they didn't already have ads all over the place, even some ads disguised as power-ups. To me this represents the lowest dregs of creativity. They give people a base level that they can coast on while reserving most of their content for people who are stupid enough to spend exorbitant amounts of cash on something that they will soon have to replace with something equally as expensive. Rovio gets no respect in my book anymore.
