Great for young children
The Trouble with Cauliflower is a gentle, funny, and wise story. Through the actions of his best friend,Sadie, the protagonist,Mortimer, comes to realize that he has an erroneous idea about the connection between cauliflower and bad luck. There is a humorous twist at the end of the book, when we find out that Mortimer has failed to generalize Sadie’s lesson to other aspects of his life. The app is well-paced, giving young listeners plenty of time to enjoy the lovely pictures. The three readers are expressive without being over-the-top. There are amusing, but not distracting, animations scattered throughout the app. All in all, this is an engaging app that will be enjoyed by young children and their parents.
This book by Jane Sutton and illustrated by Jim Harris is a cute one. Mortimer believes cauliflower brings him bad luck. Read this engaging story to find out what happens! Nice detailed illustrations and a few interactive features throughout. You can choose a favorite page or read from start to finish. One suggestion for a future update would be to hide the page choices that appears only on the first page. This can be tempting for little ones to want to touch all the squares and begin the story out of sequence.
The Trouble with Cauliflower is a beautifully illustrated book app, which comes with a great moral about self-fulfilling prophecies...if you think it, you may may make it so...(the power of suggestion). I would have liked to have seen more interactivity on the pages. For such a cute book, the narrators' voices just did not seem to match the characters. Nice story; will likely be hard for preschoolers to attend to.
