Customer Reviews

Good, but needs a couple improvements

On the iPhone, Reeder2 isn't as good as the old iPhone-only version of Reeder, for two reasons. As others have mentioned, it doesn't support landscape mode -- but more importantly for me, it doesn't provide a way to pin the taskbar to the top of the screen. Very frequently, I'll want to turn on Readability after I've scrolled several pages into an article; and it's quite inconvenient to have to scroll back to the top in order to do so. Since the old iPhone-only version of Reeder has neither of these problems, I've gone back to using it instead of Reeder2.

On the iPad, Reeder2 is *much* nicer than the old iPad-only version of Reeder. It supports both landscape and portrait modes -- and although it won't let me pin the taskbar to the top of the screen, that's not as big a problem on the iPad as on the iPhone, because I can usually see enough material on the first page to figure out whether I'll want to use Readability or not. Overall, I think Mr. Reader is slightly better than Reeder2 -- but only slightly. I'd be quite happy to use Reeder2 on the iPad if Mr. Reader weren't available.

Best RSS reader on iOS

Although the developer has totally thrown the Mac version of this app under the bus, I love this app. When Google killed off it’s popular RSS reader service, it screwed all of us who used the service. Reeder users were left without a good RSS feed app. I ended up wasting money on a couple of other apps before this app was updated so that it could work without Google. If you used the Mac version of Reeder, you’ll love this app. It has a lot of similar features, and it is very customizable. The only thing I don’t like about it is that if I haven’t opened it in a few days, the app takes a long time to update my RSS feeds. I use Fever running from my own web server. Fever works great on my Mac RSS feed reader, so I know that this is not a problem with Fever, or my web server. I just think that Reeder on iOS needs to be optimized a little better. Hopefully, the Mac version will release again soon.

Nice Upgrade from Reeder 1

I used Reeder 1 on my iPhone all the time. I think it was a pretty good app and certainly the best RSS reading app I have used on iOS.

I was reluctant to upgrade to Reeder 2 since there wasn't really any new "features" for me as a feedly user, however I am really glad I did.

You can tell that the app was rewritten almost completely. It has a much nicer feel to it and it has new navigational gestures that help make plowing through stories a breeze.

The best new enhancement is that whatever view you are in will auto update with new stories, so you don't have to back out to the "unread" view to refresh and get new content just to drill back down to the story view. You just wait for it to update and hit the "next story" down-arrow and keep on your way.

Great upgrade from Reeder 1. Keep up the nice work!
