What's New in Version 2.0
This is the first major update to Latin! It has a brand new look, brand new features, countless bug fixes, and a generally improved user experience. Here is a breakdown of what has changed:
Exercises: Exercises has a whole new interface. Exercises are now organised into grammatical categories and sub-categories, so you can easily find exercises that suit you.
Vocabulary: Although the vocabulary within the app has barely changed (with only minor bug fixes and interface adjustments), a new feature, "Vocabulary Generator", is now available. It allows you to generate a vocabulary of 600 words from a frequency based list of vocabulary found in major works of literature, such as the Aeneid and In Catilinam.
Dictionary & Parser & Text Parser: Dictionary and Parser have undergone major design and functionality changes. Dictionary now parses words into a cleaner format, rather than just displaying a webpage, and parser does a similar thing. Parser also now can handle multiple results for a single word. Finally, the root word can be tapped on in Parser to generate a definition. Text parser continues this new interface, as a sleek and accessible utility.
Forum: The forum too has a new interface, and many bugs have been addressed. It is now easier than ever to collaborate with other students and teachers.
Literature: The literature section of the app has perhaps undergone the greatest change of the whole app. Not only does it have a brand new, more user friendly and responsive interface; but, in addition, the collection of texts has more than doubled – now including texts from authors, such as Juvenal, Pliny Minor, Sallust, and many more! And, if that wasn’t enough in itself, some English translations are now available for texts.
Documents: The Documents section of the app has a new and sleeker design, with a generally more engaging and better organised interface.
Login: The login process for Latin is much more streamlined, requiring only a name and email address to use the app. For schools, students are only required to enter their name, class, and school ID code; allowing for better customisation of the app.
There are also, literally, hundreds of bug fixes and minor design changes and improvements.
In addition, Latin now supports the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and fully supports iOS 8 and iOS 8.1.
We would love to hear your feedback, so please feel free to send us a message through the feedback section of the app, or leave a review on the App Store.
Needs an update
This app is not very graceful, but it looks useable and seems to hold a great deal of content. Unfortunately it's not functioning properly: I couldn't get the exercises to load in several instances, and the parser doesn't work either. I'm assuming the app needs an update to work better under iOS 8. Definitely not worth the money, in its current state.
