Customer Reviews

Significant misinterpretations, disappointing 3d maps, and more

To be fair, I was just drawn to the app to see the '3d' map. I had expected something along the lines of a 3d landscape, rather than a static map with a few bumps here or there where mountains are. Not entirely discouraged, I continued on to the 'lore' section, where I was stunned at the extremely generalised, simplified, and several unexpected inaccuracies that reveal a surprising misunderstanding of various books, especially for Harper Collins as a publisher of Tolkien's works! It's one thing to keep things somewhat simple to encourage a film-literate audience to continue to a book-literate journey, but quite another to take a very narrow view of it all, in the process spreading clear misconceptions.

Perhaps I have too high of expectations for the perverse common dissemination of a high literary tradition by publishers? Or have all concepts of complexity and diversity been abandoned in modern society?
