Sweet Pop-Up Book Dream
Tengami is a unique experience best for those who can truly appreciate beautiful things. Dream-like imagery fills your travels through a pop-up book world full of picturesque landscapes as meditative sounds, such as waterfalls and zen-garden music, totally immerse you. It isn't meant to be a fast paced thrill-a-minute action game. It is more like visiting a museum and participating in an interactive artwork. It is visually wonderful and sublime. Can be a bit vague at times in terms of required actions needed to advance to the next page (level). Takes a lot of patience and curiosity to figure things out at times. Perhaps future updates can provide additional in-game hints and might also enrich the storyline and character development further. Overall, a magical journey that is worth the price of the trip!
In all of my geek life I have never completed/won a video game before (early one morning after 4 straight hours of play I got a really large number of lines on Tetris, but you never reach the end. )
Today I completed an app game: Tengami! It is a beautiful, peaceful, artsy puzzle game that I downloaded on Tuesday.
You walk through the pop-up book world at a leisurely pace enjoying the art, poetry, and music while solving puzzles to complete a a storybook quest. It is a thinking persons game. I loved it! I hope the developers make more just like this! The only criticism of the game that I have seen is the slow pace, but that is one of the aspects I liked about the game. The slower pace allows the player to enjoy the experience to the fullest.
Artistic and dull
Do you like Jacquie Lawson greeting cards? You know the ones where you have to click on something then something moves and eventually a picture is formed? Beautiful and mind-numbing at the same time? Then you'll love this game.
The folding book idea is genius, but the music is insipid and the storyline is almost non-existent. However, if you like to poke and dawdle to new-age, faux Japanese music while watching stylized pop-up scenes appear, this is a wonderful game.
The puzzles are all over the map as far as difficulty. Some are painfully simple, while others are maddeningly frustrating and obtuse, though most are satisfying after you solve them. Patience, Grasshopper. ;-)
I hope there are other games to follow in his genre, but with better storylines. This shows unfulfilled promise and is over priced for what you get.
