Customer Reviews

More of an experience than a game per se...

I read some good reviews of this game and decided to try it. I paid $.99 for it, I think. SO worth it. The game is more sort of this unfolding story of this small man lost in a big universe far from the planet he calls home. You start in a star system with a certain amount of resources (Oxygen, Iron, Fuel, etc.) loaded into your ship. You have a goal and you slowly make your way across the galaxy scrounging what resources and technologies you can to keep your faithful ship bearing you on valiantly towards your objective. There is a little bit of strategy in which technologies you make use of, which cargo you carry, etc. ... but really, anything could happen. Thats what I like about it though. I've played many games of it since I grabbed it last night. Some of them were very short but still entertaining. Each time you restart its a little space adventure waiting for you and you never know how its going to go. A nice way to fill a few moments. A lot of enjoyment for $.99.

Great menu-driven survival RPG

This game is exactly what I was looking for on my iPhone. Out There is a randomly generated RPG where the goal is to survive with dwindling resources on the edge of space, while trying to find your way home. That’s it. Every game, you have to find the technologies to upgrade your equipment and balance exploration with resources. You can mine planets for fuel and oxygen, but every time you mine there is less and less of what you need.

The depth of gameplay is enough to keep me engaged, and every game is both incredibly hard and very fun to see how far I can get and what new tech I bump into. Since it’s primarily a menu-driven game it can be played with one hand while I’m standing on the train.

I highly recommend this game if all these things sound good to you.

Excellent "feel" !!

This game is a perfect example of what you can do through the use of a good story, intriguing game mechanics, forethought and design, and the entertainment that can be provided without fancy graphics and explosions and blood. The music alone is fantastic and portrays the depth of space and plight of the character perfectly. One thing I really like is the STORY. It is something that many other space games utterly fail at. That and multiple endings, the ability to affect the outcome of the game. The structure could easily be translated into a larger game with fully functional 3d space and combat and be quite successful. The devs could expand on the story, and hopefully they do. Hopefully they build this into a full interactive universe. Awesome.
