CastNow Browser for Chromecast
By Marco Dania
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
Watch Web-Videos on your Chromecast device!
* With CastNow Browser you can surf the web and stream all MPEG4 videos directly to your chromecast device (ONLY the videos (!!!), not the whole browser tab content)
+ Full browser with tabs and bookmarks
+ Automatically detects any MPEG4 videos
+ Cast videos to your chromecast (if compatible) and watch them in full resolution
+ Works with videos of many streaming providers
NOTE: You need to have a chromecast device to get all benefits of this app.
NOTE 2: Some users complain, that they don't see the browser content on their TV. That's correct, this app does not mirror the whole website, only compatible videos can be casted to your TV)
** Some video websites added various protection mechansim when embedding videos in their webpages, which makes it impossible to detect those videos by CastNow. But there are still a lot of sites which work very well.
PLEASE: if this app doesn't work with a particular website, please drop us a note on our support page, before leaving a negative comment on the App Store. We can then add support for that website easily. (if it contains videos in a Chromecast-compatible format. Flash videos are not supported by Chromecast in any case)
What's New in Version 2.2
* update for iOS 8.x compatibility
Alright, however problematic
It does what it's supposed to do, however constantly throwing ads at you when you try to use the app gets a bit annoying. For an app you pay for you'd think they'd at least give you less ads if any at all. Also it would seem just leaving the page of a video you are watching takes away your ability to pause, stop, or rewind the video. Overall it does what it's advertised to do even if not well. It is the only thing I've found to stream videos from an iOS device to a Chromecast so I really have no choice in using it. However i do hope these problems are fixed soon.
Slow and buggy
The browser itself is slow and buggy. It takes a long time just to get to the page you want to cast. Then, it often has trouble detecting the Chromecast, meaning you may have to reboot the Chromecast or reconnect to wifi in order to enable the connection. Then, the browser app likes to default to Google and jump down so that you can't type in the address bar. It also offers a delayed response to most screen taps, so if you tap twice, expect it to think you're clicking something unexpected. But when you finally convince it to go to a site and cast, it's ok.
I was skeptical, but not anymore
I really needed a way to utilize the chrome cast in a way to play videos from different websites via Safari onto my TV. I found this app this is the only one out that I could find and it had sub optimal reviews. So I wanted to actually leave an authentic review on this app and I do want to say that it does work great it's worth the dollar. The only thing I could wish for is faster browser speeds.
