Description

The Outcast is a whole world you experience in your pocket. Join us on this epic text adventure where you'll explore a vast and dangerous world through a unique story system that unfolds at your own pace.

This is a story unlike any other.

PLAY AT YOUR OWN PACE:
--------------------------------------------
We don't want you to sit down and play The Outcast for hours. Seriously. We want you to take it with you throughout the day. It's like a secret world no one else knows about. You might be out and about walking around, eating lunch, or maybe on a date when something happens in The Outcast. When you go in, the story resumes. Maybe you've stumbled across an old rest stop, or a graveyard of cars, or a stranger asking for help. You'll make decisions, meet characters, and explore. Once it's over, you leave and wait for your next unexpected event.

A STORY ONLY YOU CAN TELL:
--------------------------------------------
We built our own engine to tell this unique story. We call it the Firewood engine. Why did we build one? Because it can tell stories no other engine can. Usually, if you make a decision, there's a single outcome. So if you play again, you already know what will happen. With the Firewood engine, we have the ability to make as many different outcomes from your choice as we want. So when you meet a character the first time they might become your friend, but if you play again, they may become your enemy.

This engine ensures that every story will be unique and unpredictable, just like real life.

We promise this is essential to playing the game and we will not use these notifications to spam you with sad depressing messages through out the day about how your game or the characters inside your game are "lonely" because you are neglecting them.

What's New in Version 0.4

A new dawn.

Thank you to all our fans! The wait is over, the next installment of The Outcast has arrived.

Over the past three months we've completely rebuilt every part of The Outcast. To call it an "update" would be an understatement.

It's a whole new game.

We wrote an epic journey that questions technology's place in human evolution. Travel across a broken America set 60 years in the future after a devastating event that changed the course of humanity. You are The Outcast, the one who can alter the outcome. It's a story we've proudly been crafting with our new writing team assembled in November 2014, Nick Fortugno/Playmatics and Clayton Gumbert.

We implemented a whole new dynamic narrative engine we're calling Firewood. It's built from the ground up and allows us to tell stories that are as unique as the person reading it. The world changes on it's own and through your actions. Choose to act or react.

We brought on a new artist, Ignas Zydelis, to take our initial style and bring it to new level. He's created a unique look that brings this dark world to life. As we work on The Outcast we'll be adding more and more illustrations with each update.

We added over 5,000 words to the game culminating in the first sequenced story ever to appear in The Outcast. Previously, The Outcast was a completely random set of encounters, but now, the randomness is used to add texture and unpredictability to the places you travel through.

We cannot wait to share it with you.

After you download it, jump on over to our forums and help us improve the game and build the next episode @ http://www.simplemachine.co/outcastforums/

We hope to see you there!

Love,
Team Simple Machine

Customer Reviews

A game at a glance.

I like this game for what it is, a great story that you don't have to get sucked into. There's always a different path to choose, and so far it's never been the same twice. I love the art you put in, it's very dark, and goes very well with the story. This would be a good game to port onto the Watch as a glance card or mini app.

Pathetic

I cannot believe I paid for this CRAP. I can't spend another 2 bucks- hell, if it was FREE, I would never get the "next installment". Very disappointed especially after thinking it would be anywhere near Lifeline, so warning Lifeline players: save your money, this is not worth it. I paid for twenty days and I believe I made one decision when I had the two seconds to play it everyday for three days.

Stupid

Intriguing idea, very poor execution. Every couple hours you can play for a few seconds. I'm on day 8 and have only had to make two decisions. The rest just have "next" as the only option. Very disappointed so far.
