Lend your sight to blind and low vision people through a live video connection, or receive assistance through the global network of volunteers. Be My Eyes connects blind and low vision users with sighted volunteers or company representatives who can assist them with a range of tasks.
Blind and low vision users can request help from a sighted volunteer, who is notified on their phone. As soon as the first volunteer accepts the request for help, a live audio-video connection is established between the two parties. Through the blind or low vision user’s rear-facing camera, the volunteer can see the item or subject the user needs assistance with and provide the visual description he or she needs.
As a blind or low vision user, you can request assistance through Be My Eyes at any time of the day, from anywhere in the world, in more than 180 languages. Be My Eyes connects you to a sighted volunteer who speaks your language and can help you with anything from simple tasks, like checking expiry dates, to more complicated situations, like navigation or finding a lost item.
With the Specialized Help feature, you can receive help directly from our partner companies if you have issues or questions regarding their specific products or services. Just tap the Specialized Help option and choose a company from the menu to call through Be My Eyes. You will be directly connected to a company representative through a live video connection.
As a sighted volunteer, you’ll receive a notification when a blind or low vision user requires some assistance. The first volunteer to answer the request will be connected to the blind or low vision user, so don’t worry if you’re not able to answer the call, another volunteer will step in instead. Be My Eyes only takes a few minutes of your time, making it easy to fit into any schedule and make a real difference in another person’s day.
- Live audio-video connection between the two parties
- 90 % of calls answered within 30 seconds
- Add the languages you speak in settings

A simple idea with life-changing results
If you are blind or visually impaired, and don’t already have this app, download it immediately. It’s a very simple concept. A cited volunteer looks through your phone’s camera and assist you with various tasks throughout your day. These tasks can be extremely mundane, like identifying what a box of cereal is or what color a shirt is... to very intricate and advanced tasks. just this morning, a volunteer help me reset the proper fuse on my circuit breaker. I’d say one of the coolest experiences I have had, is when a man stayed on the phone with me for almost 45 minutes, and I was able to upgrade the RAM on my iMac. This is a task that would be extremely difficult without help because you have to make sure the RAM sticks are lined up perfectly and facing in the right direction. Also, just to gain access to the ram area, you have to unscrew these miniature screws which are impossible to feel. But with the man’s help I was able to get the screws off, lineup the ram correctly and make sure it was installed. So if you’re sided and want to help, this is a great app where you can help blind people from almost anywhere as long as your iPhone is with you. If you’re blind and you don’t have this, I recommend getting it immediately. At first it might feel a little awkward for both sides, but trust me it helps you if you’re blind and you’re really helping people if your cited.
I am a volunteer and it brightens up my day!
I love answering calls because it humbles me that low vision or blind people go through a lot of extra work just to get through daily life. And to be able to make it easier for them means the world to me. It ALWAYS makes me smile even if I’m having a bad day by helping. Everyone is so grateful and wonderful to work with. I even helped out a man with narrowed vision who voluntarily goes out and helps homeless people and needed help reading a SUPER small print sheet that had all the resources for people in need. He just needed to find the one for housing to help people get back on their feet. Not only are they giving back and volunteering, but I felt a part of it at the same time because I was able to help him find the resources he needed so he could give out to those he helps who are homeless. Someone with a disability giving back in the way they receive help themselves is the definition of giving forward. And I just think this is Suh an amazing app, with amazing people all over the world. I can’t want until my next call to help out someone new. Now if I could also meet them, that would just mean the world to me to meet these incredible people. They inspire me.
I’m never given enough time to answer.
I recently read about someone who had troubles getting help because nobody answered. Well, I always try to answer, but I have to unlock my phone first. By the time I get it unlocked, the call has been passed to someone else. If I have more than a few seconds to answer, I would be able to answer more often. It would be great if the request came through as a FaceTime call; I think I don’t have to unlock my phone for that. Furthermore, I would be more useful if I could set my app to available or unavailable when I’m sitting idle or driving. Because of the issues I have answering and the rarity of requests, I have often considered deleting the app altogether.
Other than my two complaints, I have enjoyed the app. I really enjoyed helping the two folks I was able to assist. I’ll be honest, I get really excited when the opportunity to help someone arises. Helping others is what I enjoy most in life, but I would like more opportunities to do so. Thank you to the creators of Be My Eyes for creating something so wonderful. I don’t expect it to be perfect, but I hope my feedback helps improve the experience for everyone.
