Manipulative pricing

I generally frown on reviewing a product you haven’t used, but in this case I thought it was appropriate.

You can not use the app at all, even to try it out to see if it is useful, without paying. It’s not cheap and it’s a subscription. The most affordable is a bit under $5 paper week on a weekly basis. If you’d like to pay less per week, you’ll need a monthly or annual subscription, in which case your minimum cost would be less per week but the minimum cost, for either a month or a year, would be higher. So you can’t even see how it works for less than $4.50 or so.

Since most people who use this will be using it once for a single kitchen, a subscription doesn’t make sense. As a builder I have other apps like this and the ones I use all charge per project. Basically, you can start a project for free but function is limited without a fee for the project, usually a few dollars. So this pricing, in my opinion, is manipulative and relies on you forgetting to cancel the subscription.

Stuck in a password Catch-22 loop

I just downloaded this app to use for an upcoming IKEA shopping trip, hoping that the app would save me time & effort during that trip, as well as future IKEA runs. It seems like a great idea: use the app to build shopping lists both at home & in the store. At home, you can build “go-see” lists for items you want to see in person. In the store, you can make lists of showroom items to ease locating those items in the warehouse.

And maybe this is a great app. But for me, I’m stuck in some weird password Catch-22. The app requires a new password - for some reason - and, again for some reason, the website refuses to allow the password change. After several minutes of troubleshooting this loop, I finally decided it’s easier to go old-school: make handwritten lists or even use a notepad-type app for both at-home browsing & store shopping.

Thanks anyway, IKEA & developers.

You're On Your Own

This app has no instruction on how it works. I went to some store clerks in Jacksonville and asked them what "Collected" meant (after you've added an item to a list, your only further options are to remove it or "collect" it. Neither of the clerks knew what it meant to "collect" an item in the app.

Also, unlike other similar apps from other warehouse stores, this one offers no help on locating an item in the store. Add that to the maze Ikea crates in their store that forces you to walk aimlessly among the items they want to sell you, and you are going to spend a long time in the store looking for your specific item. Perhaps that's by design, but it's very inconvenient.

Other than to show you the size of the packaging and alert you to whether the item is in stock, this app is pretty much useless.
