iKiva for Kiva.org
Open iTunes to buy and download apps.
iKiva is an iOS client for www.kiva.org.
Please note that iKiva is developed by Vijay Kiran (www.vijaykiran.com) for ThoughtVine (www.thoughtvine.co.in) and is not supported or endorsed by Kiva.
Kiva is a non-profit organization with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. Leveraging the internet and a worldwide network of microfinance institutions, Kiva lets individuals lend as little as $25 to help create opportunity around the world. To know more about how Kiva works please goto www.kiva.org
• Browse and find loans using filters.
• View details a detailed description of the loans, location and repayment terms.
• Search for loans using different criteria like geographic region, status etc.
• Check your portfolio and loans' status.
• View top lending communities of Kiva and their details.
• Add loans to your basket and checkout using Kiva Website.
• Select your loan amount and pre-configured donation amount to Kiva before checking out.
When you checkout your basket, Kiva.org website will be opened to complete the lending action.
Kiva.org doesn't provide the remaining credit details and ability to directly lend using their API. So iKiva can't get your available credit or loan transaction details. As soon as Kiva provides API methods to retrieve that information, we'll be happy to update the app and show all the info.
How to Access Your Account
I believe this is why some users are having problems accessing their Kiva accounts -- the first screen asks for your "Lender ID." This is not the ID you use to log in to the Kiva website; nor is it your Kiva screen name.
If you touch the ? (to the right and slightly above the login field) you 'll get a brief explanation and a Safari link to the Kiva website. After you log in to your account on the website, your "Lender ID" displays. You can select and copy your ID, then go back to the iKiva app and paste it in the "Lender ID" field. You now have access to your portfolio, groups, etc.
I haven't had the app long enough to evaluate all the features, but from my first brief look, it will make it easier to help others succeed.
Nice app, limited API
I was hoping to find an app from Kiva themselves. I think it's very noble that this one exists for free. Kiva itself is a great thing and I think I would make more loans if there were a way to easily do it from my phone.
I wanted to search all loans, not just the ones loaded.
I probably won't use this app but I felt compelled to write a good review since it seems like the developers are taking some misdirected criticism for what is probably a pretty bare bones API.
I hope this app improves. I won't delete it so that I get update alerts.
A Handy App for a Great Organization
I've been a member of Kiva for several years and have made 90 microloans to date. I just got upgraded my iPhone to the new iPhone 4S and was looking for some new apps and found this. I wish I'd thought to look for it earlier. A must-have for Kiva members, and a great way to share your Kiva experience when you're out and about.
