Ratings and Reviews
I thought I knew what I was getting when I read the description, but words don't really do this assembly of beautiful and compelling content any justice! I've been a Wally Lamb fan since She's Come Undone so I was excited about a new title. I loved actually getting to see and hear Wally in this Metabook! So cool that I can read, listen or do both. The audio really brings the characters to life in a way that makes me feel like I was in the room. Getting to know about Lois Weber in the book and in a short film is more than I could have anticipated!! To get so
much talent amassed in one place and all around the central story of Felix and his family is cool. Wally never disappoints. He already has me laughing, crying and wondering how he can write women so well.
Each component seems to have been lovingly and painstakingly crafted, resulting in an engaging literary sensory experience unlike anything I've experienced. Love that this whole project is an ode to women and feminists everywhere!! On a practical side, I still can't believe I get all that is in this app for this price. Blown Away and oh so happy! I am loving this new experience. Definitely a cool gift idea for your favorite readers too.
What a great listen!!!
This was my first experience reading a metabook and in reading anything written by Wally Lamb...and the metabook totally changed the experience for me. The character's had a voice that helped to connect to their personality and picture what they would look like. I thoroughly enjoyed the metabook experience. As for the story....At first I wasn't sure where it was headed as Felix (young and old) told his story and the characters told their own....but I was intrigued by the lives of the Funicello Family and his relationship with his siblings....and family secrets. The plot came with a twist at the perfect time and there was so much detail that I felt like I could picture everything in my head. This book talks to a lot of topics, family, culture, religion, feminism....during a time when people were still fighting for their rights! He told the story from a very different time and didn't miss a beat on how times have changed and evolved! I have not read his other books so can't compare it but I thoroughly enjoyed it!!!
Everything about this app just gave me goosebumps from the moment I downloaded it. From seeing Wally on my phone screen and hearing his voice. To learning history of Lois Weber. Absolutely amazing.
The soundtrack is so beautiful I could listen to it all day. That Justin Lamb was included reading his poetry is so awesome!
The best part for me is the audio with the book included. I recently have struggled with reading comprehension due to a brain injury. It has been hard for me to press play and then pick up a book and find my place in it. Metabook seems to have made that much easier.
Lastly, I had a minor glitch (which turned out to be user error). Before I found out it was a problem on my end, I emailed Ken. He responded within minutes and tried to solve the"problem" the best he could. Such a great producer!!
Wally - hurry up and write another book and don't forget to work with Metabook!
