Great app for long drives in historic areas
I bought this app because I'm always driving by historic markers and rarely have the time to stop and read them. I had actually been thinking that just such an app needed to be developed when I thought to look for it. I'd give it 5 stars but for three things: as someone already mentioned, the zoom function is wonky on the iPhone (I want it to really zoom in to where I am when I tap on the locator icon - what it usually does is give about a 15-20 mile range and in Maryland/Virginia, that gives a LOT if little red dots to sort through); no way to indicate missing signs. Finally the geo-locator often seems to not work at all - I'll tap it and it will still show me in a location I was hours ago or worse, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
Marking the markers
Works great, but we have run across a few that we're not in the right place. This app also needs a separate bookmark option that will list the markers we have seen on a different list than the normal bookmarks. Also, the dots of the markers we have seen should change to another color so that it is easier to visualize what is left to see on the map. I will be sending an email with corrections when I return home. Other than minor tweaks, this is a valuable app to have of looking for historical markers.
Great App! I
I really like this app (I'm used to the "feature" limitations with the GPS/Maps on the iPhone). I'm a Geocacher (massive scavenger hunt hobby using GPS units), and I like to place educational caches for people to find. I especially like to place caches related to historical events in the local area. This app will make it much easier to locate / find historical sites and plaques.
So, I would like to recommend this app to all geocachers to make interesting geocaches.
I have one suggestion for improvement if the the database of sites/plaques will allow it. Could you have the pin colors differ by type of site? For example: Yellow for a historic district, Green for historic buildings, Red for stand alone information plaques (ie Historic battlefields).
Again, thanks for a great app, and I'm looking forward to more improvement....
