In the Current, is a public art project by Yvonne Cullivan, commissioned by Cavan County Council in 2013 under the Per Cent for Art Scheme, and funded by the National Roads Authority. The commission was particular to Belturbet town, Co. Cavan. In the Current consists of eight short films produced by the artist following a period of research and sustained engagement with residents and specialists from the Belturbet area. Drawing on aspects of local historical and contemporary culture, and grounded in the physical fabric of the landscape, these sensory films blur the lines of fact and fiction, reality and the imagined, carrying information from peripheral locations, via the airwaves, through the water, in the ground, and across layers of time.
This bespoke App was designed by Mobanode, in collaboration with the artist, as a permanent home for the project In the Current. The App contains the eight short films and contextual information outlining the content and research for the films. It also contains a poem in pdf and audio form entitled, Field Notes, written by Tom Conaty in response to the artist’s process and research. The audio version of Field Notes is accompanied by music written and performed for the project by Finn Conaty. Further details about the artist and the project in general can also be found within the App.
