iNaturalist is a place where you can record what you see in nature, meet other nature lovers, and learn about the natural world!

From hikers to hunters, birders to beach-combers, the world is filled with naturalists, and many of us record what we find. What if all those observations could be shared online? You might discover someone who finds beautiful wildflowers at your favorite birding spot, or learn about the birds you see on the way to work. If enough people recorded their observations, it would be like a living record of life on Earth that scientists and land managers could use to monitor changes in biodiversity, and that anyone could use to learn more about nature.

That's the vision behind So if you like recording your findings from the outdoors, or if you just like learning about life, join us!

Love iNaturalist but app could use work

The website is fantastic and very user friendly. The app, however, is very limited and has quite a flew glitches on the current version that need to be fixed. When you scroll down to see new IDs it automatically shoots to the top and doesn't let you see the updated comments and IDs. Another really big problem is that if you have location services off, the app constantly interrupts what you're doing with three pop-ups saying you have location services off and your location cannot be found. This is ridiculous since location services wastes battery and you'd expect the app builders to be aware and make it so people can use the app without this issue but I'm assuming they sell your location information for profit and thus really want you to have it on...super obnoxious and the main reason I've given the app 2 stars!

This app and the iNaturalist platform is one of the best ways to document and learn about nature. The community is really helpful with identification, the developers are constantly improving the app, and the data you create is really useful for both amateur naturalists and professional biologists.

Best in Class

Before this I was using the Nosh Project, which was a good app in its own right, but it didn't keep up with iOS updates.

This app has been regularly updated and the community on it is very active and helpful!
